2013 saw the release of CURSE OF CHUCKY, a film that was mostly well received. When it comes to the future of what Chucky will be up to, creator Don Mancini seems to always have the creative wheels turning.
A while back, the slight teases for a new Chucky film began on Twitter courtesy of Mancini, and each time not revealing too much with each image.
As it turns out, Mancini was not bluffing as the official announcement was finally made by EW. Universal 1440 Entertainment, a production entity of Universal Pictures Home Entertainment, reveals that filming on the upcoming sequel titled CULT OF CHUCKY will begin in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada on January 9th.
We have the official teaser trailer for you down below which Universal has put together. While no new footage is shown, it is nice to see that a new Chucky film is on the way for sure.
Returning to the franchise will be Brad Dourif, who provides the voice of Chucky. Also returning will be Fiona Dourif, Alex Vincent who once again takes on the role of Andy, as well as Jennifer Tilly reprising her role as Tiffany.
CULT OF CHUCKY will follow Fiona Dourif's character Nica Pierce from the previous film CURSE OF CHUCKY as she is:
"at an asylum for the criminally insane where she has been confined for the past four years and is erroneously convinced that she, not Chucky, murdered her entire family. But when Nica's psychiatrist introduces a new therapeutic "tool" to facilitate his patients' group sessions — an all-too-familiar "Good Guy" doll with an innocently smiling face — a string of grisly deaths begins to plague the asylum, and Nica starts to wonder if maybe she isn't crazy after all. Andy Barclay (Vincent), Chucky's now-grown-up nemesis from the original Child's Play, races to Nica's aid. But to save her he'll have to get past Tiffany (Tilly), Chucky's long-ago bride, who will do anything, no matter how deadly or depraved, to help her beloved devil doll."
Mancini will write, direct, and serve as executive producer on CULT OF CHUCKY which is being produced by David Kirschner and Ogden Gavanski. Leading the special effects team as well as associate producing is Tony Gardner. Michael Marshall is the director of photography, Craig Sandells is the production designer and Patricia J. Henderson is the costume designer.
Glenn Ross, General Manager and Executive Vice President at Universal 1440 Entertainment Glenn Ross said the following about the project:
"It's hard to believe that it's been nearly 30 years since Chucky first terrified moviegoers in Child's Play. Since then the films have generated millions in worldwide box-office revenue. Now Chucky's back with more scores to settle in his trademark twisted style, and you can bet he won't stop until he gets his revenge."
CULT OF CHUCKY will be getting an unrated release on Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital HD this Fall.
