It was quite a while ago that Ron Perlman really made some big waves by asking the Internet for help in getting HELLBOY III off of the ground. He then hit rewind on the situation saying that he wasn’t aware that “a little goof” of a tweet would light such a fire. Perlman brought in 20,000 new followers within a single day, so naturally he kept the spirit of a third film going.
Perlman, Hellboy comic book creator Mike Mignola, and writer/director Guillermo del Toro have all said in the past that a HELLBOY III would most likely never happen.
Fast forward to the present time where del Toro is looking to possibly light a small fire under this idea once again by posting an informal poll on his Twitter page asking fans if they would want to see a third entry into the film series. He added the stipulation that if the poll reached 100,000 votes within 24 hours time, then a sit down with Perlman and Mignola would be taking place with a third film on table of discussion.
del Toro said of the situation:
"No guarantee but we will discuss. Wish us luck!!"
Needless to say, well more than enough votes were cast by fans across the globe, leading the filmmaker to post this statement on Twitter:
Here is the description given for HELLBOY III some time ago by del Toro:
"Hellboy finally comes to terms with the fact that his destiny, his inevitable destiny, is to become the beast of the Apocalypse, and having him and Liz face the sort of, that part of his nature, and he has to do it, in order to be able to ironically vanquish the foe that he has to face in the 3rd film. He has to become the best of the Apocalypse to be able to defend humanity, but at the same time he becomes a much darker being."
HELLBOY III is not officially in line to be made at this point, but anything is possible. We will continue to bring you more on this story as we hear it.
