The new adaptation of Stephen King's IT has been coming together for a great while now. The plan for the project is for it to be presented in two separate films which is being produced by Dan Lin, Roy Lee, Seth Grahame-Smith and David Katzenberg. MAMA director Andy Muschietti was hired on to helm this new adaptation.
Some time ago we got our first full look at the new Pennywise and needless to say, it certainly has certainly got people talking. One of the most iconic scenes from the 1990 mini-series is the meeting between Georgie and Pennywise after the former chases after his paper boat to an open sewer drain. We were able to get out hands on an image from the new movie, courtesy of Empire, where we see the meeting between Georgie and Pennywise taking place. This is only a screenshot from a magazine but it is still very cool.
With a solid R-rating on the way, the current cast for the new IT adaptation is made up of Nicholas Hamilton, Sophia Lillis, Jaeden Lieberher, Finn Wolfhard, Jack Dylan Grazer, Wyatt Oleff, Chosen Jacobs, Owen Teague, Jeremy Ray Taylor, Javier Botet and Bill Skarsgard as Pennywise the Clown.
With the new IT project being planned as two separate films, we can expect to see the point of view from the kids in one film and the other film being that of the adults.
The book was previously adapted by Tommy Lee Wallace as a 1990 two part, three hour event miniseries on ABC, starring Tim Curry as Pennywise.
Original Synopsis for IT:
"It’s a small city, a place as hauntingly familiar as your own hometown. Only in Derry the haunting is real… They were seven teenagers when they first stumbled upon the horror. Now they are grown-up men and women who have gone out into the big world to gain success and happiness. But none of them can withstand the force that has drawn them back to Derry to face the nightmare without an end, and the evil without a name."
September 8th, 2017 is the current release date for Part 1 of the new adaptation of Stephen King's IT.
