Update On The SUSPIRIA Remake!

Bringing you the best in Horror Movie News, and all things Horror.

Dario Argento's 1977 classic Horror film SUSPIRIA is considered by many fans to be one of the very best movies ever made. Plans to create a remake were talked about for a while but never amounted to anything. There were even ideas for the film to take the possible television series route.

Then back in 2015 we learned that Italian filmmaker Luca Guadagnino had been selected to replace David Gordon Green as director for the SUSPIRIA remake.

With original star Jessica Harper firmly on board, we know that this project is moving along nicely as production halted back in January for a bit, only to resume filming in March as Guadagnino took time off to focus on his film CALL ME BY NAME, which premiered at Sundance.

With the post production process now in full effect for the SUSPIRIA remake, we have learned that Thom Yorke from the band Radiohead will officially be scoring the film.

“Frenesy Films and Mythology Entertainment are thrilled to announce that legendary singer/songwriter Thom Yorke will compose the score for Luca Guadagnino’sSuspiria. Yorke’s unsurpassed talent and unmistakable sounds will enhance and intensify the thrilling horror epic that is Suspiria. This marks the immensely talented musician’s first time scoring a feature film. Amazon Studios co-financed the film with K Period Media and Amazon Studios will release the film theatrically in the United States. ”

Director Luca Guadagnino responded to the news saying:

“Thom’s art transcends the contemporary. To have the privilege of his music and sound for Suspiria is a dream come true. The depth of his creation and artistic vision is so unique that our Suspiria will sound groundbreaking and will deeply resonate with viewers. Our goal is to make a movie that will be a disturbing and transforming experience: for this ambition, we could not find a better partner than Thom.”

The producers of the film, Marco Morabito and Brad Fischer also responded with:

“Thom Yorke has composed and performed some of the most iconic and transformative music in modern culture. To have him lend his talent to Suspiria is an extraordinary gift, both to us as filmmakers and to audiences, who have a remarkable, terrifying and emotionally stirring experience in store for them.”

Dario Argento’s version of the film brought a very bright and technicolor watching experience. Speaking with Variety, director Guadagnino previously spoke of his upcoming remake on the comparison saying:

“It’s a film about guilt and motherhood. It has no primary colors in its color palette, unlike the original. It will be cold, evil and really dark.”

Dakota Johnson will be taking on the heroine role which Harper portrayed in the original film. Tilda Swinton is also on board, and is expected to play one of the witches that run the dance academy.

Chloë Grace Moretz is also part of the cast and will likely be playing one of the students at the dance academy. Mia Goth joins the rest of the ladies as she too is expected to portray one of the students at the academy.

Director Luca Guadagnino's career has mostly been made up of shorts and documentaries. He has a few feature dramas to his credit including the thriller A BIGGER SPLASH, which is a remake of 1969's LA PISCINE.

Guadagnino previously stated about his SUSPIRIA project that he has high hopes of getting composer John Adams on board, and that he is taking a Fassbinderian approach to the remake.

Synopsis:

“Susie Bannion, a young American woman, travels to the prestigious Markos Tanz Company in Berlin in the year 1977. She arrives just as one of the Company’s members, Patricia, has disappeared under mysterious circumstances. As Susie makes extraordinary progress under the guidance of Madame Blanc, the Company’s revolutionary artistic director, she befriends another dancer, Sara, who shares her suspicions that the Matrons, and the Company itself, may be harboring a dark and menacing secret.”

David Kajganich wrote the script which is based on Dario Argento's classic film.

With Amazon holding the the distribution rights, it looks as thought the SUSPIRIA remake could see a 2017 fall release. We will continue to bring you more on this story as it unfolds.
