Bringing you the best in Horror Movie News, and all things Horror.
Back in 2008, the home invasion Horror film THE STRANGERS hit the scene and caused quite the impact among the Horror community. With great success, a sequel was quickly being prepared to launch back in 2009 with Laurent Briet directing a screenplay written by Bryan Bertino. As you all know that idea never came into fruition.
It wasn’t long ago that we learned that THE STRANGERS 2 was back on track and would be directed by Johannes Roberts, who directed THE OTHER SIDE OF THE DOOR.
Just last week, Roberts let it slip that we would be getting some John Carpenter influence in THE STRANGERS 2, making mention of DUEL and CHRISTINE. As it turns out, we will be getting some vehicular action in the new film as the director tells CraveOnline:
“It was a great script and it just had a lot of different elements that I really always wanted to tackle. We play with the truck a lot in this one, and that’s kind of fun. It has a slight CHRISTINE feel to it. That’s kind of cool."
The truck, you said?
"Yeah, you know, the Strangers’ truck in the first one. That plays quite an iconic role in this."
Roberts’ previous comments on THE STRANGERS 2:
“It’s going to be great, I hope. I’m in week two of filming. It’s Christina Hendricks, Martin Henderson, Bailee Madison, Lewis Pullman, and they’re fucking great. It looks absolutely incredible. I love Bertino’s film, I think it’s an amazing movie and tonally this movie is going to fit very well into that universe. It has a real strong emotional heart, which the first one did, and it has a very cool retro feel to it, a lot of sort of references to… I mean, I always bring a lot of John Carpenter with me because that’s what I grew up on, but also maybe going back a bit earlier to the seventies movies, from Don’t Look Now to Duel, the Spielberg movie, even Christine a bit, the John Carpenter movie. All of these influences are finding their way into the movie, but I think it’s going to be a real fantastic movie. I’m super excited about it."
Producer Trevor Macy previously said about THE STRANGERS 2:
“I think expectations are very high on that movie. The original Strangers had a very timeless quality that I think the sequel will, too. So I’m hoping that it doesn’t feel like as long as it’s been.”
When asked if the film will be a direct continuation to the first one and if we will be seeing the same three masked characters he replied:
“I think that is safe to say.”
With Roberts directing THE STRANGERS movie, Bryan Bertino and Ben Ketai are the duo that are responsible for the script. Producing the film are Mark Lane & James Harris along with Wayne Marc Godfrey and Robert Jones, in association with Relativity Media. Handling the international sales at the European Film Market in Berlin will be BLOOM.
"A family whose road trip takes a turn when they arrive at a secluded mobile home park and after the power goes out they decide to hunker down for the night in a borrowed trailer. Under the cover of darkness three familiar masked psychopaths pay them a visit to test their every limit."
We will continue to bring you more on THE STRANGERS 2 as we hear it.
