World famous director Guillermo del Toro once said the Universal classic CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON was the first time that he was ever aware of a monster within a movie. Years ago, del Toro pitched to Universal his idea on how to remake the CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON by making it a Jules Verne inspired period piece that would have the Victorian era setting.
It looks as though del Toro has now taken elements from his proposed remake and shaped it into something even further in the upcoming film THE SHAPE OF WATER. The movie is described as an “other-worldly fairy tale" that plays out against the backdrop of the Cold War in 1963.
THE SHAPE OF WATER stars Sally Hawkins, Doug Jones, Michael Shannon, Octavia Spencer, Richard Jenkins, and Michael Stuhlbarg.
“A lonely mute woman named Elsa is trapped in a life of silence and isolation within the hidden high-security government laboratory where she works. Her life is changed forever when she and her co-worker Zelda (Spencer) discover a secret classified experiment.”
THE SHAPE OF WATER will be released by Fox Searchlight December 8th.
