Tobe Hooper Passes Away


There is very sad news in the world today as we have learned that Tobe Hooper has passed away at the age of 74. According to the Los Angeles County Coroner, Tobe Hooper died yesterday in Sherman Oaks, California.

Details on Hooper’s death have not been made known at this time. He is survived by his two sons.


Tobe Hooper was born on January 25th 1943 in Austin Texas. He began his filmmaking career in 1969 with the experimental film titled EGGSHELLS. Then in 1973, Hooper set out to make an independent Horror film titled THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE. The movie was the 12th highest grossing film in the year of 1974, surpassing $30 million in the U.S. and Canada. THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE is now regarded as one of the top Horror films of all time.


Hooper then set out to make more Horror and Sci-fi films such as EATEN ALIVE, the Stephen King mini-series SALEM’S LOT, as well as the slasher classic FUNHOUSE. Other projects that Hooper did include LIFEFORCE, the remake of INVADERS FROM MARS, the pilot episode of the FREDDY’S NIGHTMARES TV series, and an episode of HBO’s TALES FROM THE CRYPT. He also contributed two installments into the Masters of Horror Series and even did THE TOOLBOX MURDERS just to name a few.


Hooper will always be known for THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE, but he is also credited the beloved 1982 film titled POLTERGEIST.

In 1986, Hooper followed up THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE with a black comedy style angle in a sequel titled THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE 2.

His final film is titled DJINN and was shown at the Abu Dhabi Film Festival in 2013. The film has yet to receive a proper international release.
