Going back to December of 2014, the reports of a BEETLEJUICE 2 have been going strong. Tim Burton and Michael Keaton were speaking highly of the idea of doing another movie together. Burton even went on to say that a sequel is "closer than ever" at one point. Winona Ryder, who portrayed Lydia Deetz from the BEETLEJUICE has also shown interest in a sequel.
Last year it looked as though the ship had sailed on a possible sequel to be made. Fast forward to the present time and we have some news on the situation.
Deadline reports that BEETLEJUICE 2 is now back in development and has pegged Mike Vukadinovich to rewrite the screenplay. Vukadinovich is known for writing REMEMORY. Nothing has been confirmed at this time, the site is reporting that both Time Burton and Michael Keaton are excited to do the project.
“After Barbara (Geena Davis) and Adam Maitland (Alec Baldwin) die in a car accident, they find themselves stuck haunting their country residence, unable to leave the house. When the unbearable Deetzes (Catherine O'Hara, Jeffrey Jones) and teen daughter Lydia (Winona Ryder) buy the home, the Maitlands attempt to scare them away without success. Their efforts attract Beetlejuice (Michael Keaton), a rambunctious spirit whose "help" quickly becomes dangerous for the Maitlands and innocent Lydia.”
