WHAT WE DO IN THE SHADOWS introduced viewers to four vampire roommates in a mockumentary that won’t soon be forgotten. If you are a fan of the wild and crazy vampire humor then you will be pleased to know that FX has officially ordered a pilot episode that is based off of the movie.
The pilot episode could lead to a potential WHAT WE DO IN THE SHADOWS series. It will feature vampires residing in a New Zealand flat. Documentary filmmakers follow them around for all of their dark adventures.
Writers/directors Jermaine Clement and Taika Waititi will indeed return behind the scenes, with Clement writing the pilot episode, and Waititi directing. It hasnt been revealed if the duo will reprise their on screen vampire roles. These two will also be executive producing the series along with Scott Rudin, Paul Simmons, Garrett Basch, and Elit Bush. THR reports that the cast will include Kayvan Novak, Matt Berry, Natasia Demetriou, and Harvey Guillen.
Only time will tell if FX picks up the series but we do know that there are two potential spinoff series’ that will be based off of WHAT WE DO IN THE SHADOWS is being developed. One will focus on werewolves with the other focusing on the comedic cop characters Karen and Mike.
"Viago, Deacon, and Vladislav are vampires who are finding that modern life has them struggling with the mundane—like paying rent, keeping up with the chore wheel, trying to get into nightclubs, and overcoming roommate conflicts."
