Fans of SWAMP THING will be very pleased to know that the classic character is gearing up to return to TV courtesy of James Wan. The new drama, when completed, will air on DC’s upcoming VOD service called DC Universe. The plan is a script to series order, which means that if the script is well received, the show would be picked up straight to series.
The showrunners will be Mark Verheiden and Gary Dauberman, who will also write the script that is based off of the DC characters created by Len Wein and Bernie Wrightson.
James Wan is set to Executive produce along with Michael Clear, Verheiden and Dauberman, with Rob Hackett, who will serve as co-exec producer.
“The drama follows what happens when CDC researcher Abby Arcane returns to her childhood home of Houma, Louisiana, in order to investigate a deadly swamp-borne virus. There, she develops a surprising bond with scientist Alec Holland — only to have him tragically taken from her. But as powerful forces descend on Houma, intent on exploiting the swamp’s mysterious properties for their own purposes, Abby will discover that the swamp holds mystical secrets, both horrifying and wondrous — and the potential love of her life may not be dead after all.”
The DC Digital service launches sometime in 2018.
