Another Friday the 13th, another remake.

So for the second month in a row, we have ourselves a Friday the 13th AND another remake being released. The question is: Are you going to go see The Last House on the Left?

No

I HATE the original, but I'll probably see this one.
Michael Aspinwall Saturday 3/07/2009 at 08:13 PM | 38902
I agree with Michael on this one, the original sucked.

I think the only reason it gets any mention at all was due to the subject matter at the time, which I'm sure was pretty shocking back then.

Even so, I'll probably check it out when it's released on DVD, but I won't pay to see it at the theater.

Gummi and Mike I agree, the first one wasn't that good. It just wasn't. It is SUCH a great idea for a movie but I think because of the era it was made Wes just didn't have the tools to nail it. That's why I am excited to see the new veron. I can remember when I first watched The Last House on the Left thinking this needs a remake and I never say that. Plus come on guys, the soundtrack from the first movie is teetering on the worst song choices for any movie I have ever seen.

It's porn muc for Christ sakes!

this movie still had a right to not be remade PERIOD!

But wasn't the original Last House on the Left a remake of Bergman's Jungfrukallan?

But wasn't the original Last House on the Left a remake of Bergman's Jungfrukallan?

Isn't that the one with Max von Sydow in it? Something we never talk about is Needful Things, I love that movie! Sydow is fantastic in it. Jungfrukallan may have been loosely based on Last House but Wes Craven wrote the screenplay. It wasn't a remake I don't think....

That's the one!

Jungfrukallan may have been loosely based on Last House

How could it have been based on Last House when it was made 12 years earlier?

but Wes Craven wrote the screenplay.

Who wrote the screenplay doesn't mean anything...Rob Zombie wrote the screenplay for his Halloween but it was still a remake.

It wasn't a remake I don't think....

It's the same story told in 1972 America instead of medieval Sweden. I guess whether it's a remake or not would really depend on what constitutes a remake. My thought would be if you make a film that tells the same story as a previously released film it's a remake.

I meant that the other way around.

Well if you constitute any movie that has the same bac premise as a remake than everything is a remake. We rarely see original films these days let alone in horror. Was I know what you did last summer a remake of scream? Is every zombie movie a rip of night of the living dead? Stories get told over and over again to new audiences but we're talking about two ends of the spectrum here aren't we?....

We're on different pages here...

You're talking about a examples of a few common elements that define a subgenre.

I'm talking about two films where your villains rape/murder a girl and end up unknowingly seeking refuge in the home of their victim's parents who learn who these people are and exact revenge. I think that's going a step beyond the same bac premise.

no I see where your coming from but books do this all the time, where the author bacally elaborates on something familiar to them. It is the same premise but I just am not sure you can call it a remake. It's a tough question. Next Behind the Mask interview......Wes Craven!

Don't try and pretend you can read... I agree with you whether or not it can be called a remake is a tough question. What I said before is that it really depends on what constitutes a remake. If you tell the exact same story with a different title, I guess the question becomes how milar does the story have to be to call it a remake. My own criteria for calling something a remake may be different than yours...it doesn't mean either of us are right or wrong.

Maybe...

I have to agree with Bisco. Even if I don't like the original all that much, it still just doesn't need to be remade.

So any slasher movie ever made is essentially a remake of Halloween?

I'm not sure what you're trying to start here but you may want to go back and reread what I actually said instead of taking one line out of context.

I was going to say Psycho but really Halloween was the start of the modern slasher. But technically, yes, we should refer to Psycho.

I'm just saying that what I got from what you said was that you are saying that nce all slashers have a killer after a group of people then it must be a "remake" of Halloween (or Psycho) nce they all copy the idea of Halloween/Psycho where there is a killer on the loose offing people one by one. That is the general idea of any slasher right?

When the hell did I ever say that???

What I referred to was one film following the exact same plot of another from start to finish. I never referred to slashers at all.
