Matthew Mayhems Photography Lessons 101

Okay here is a quick and cheap way to do photos for your masks or things you want to sell HorrorBid.

1) Camera and tripod (use the camera timer when you shutter speed is less than 60) 2) Cheap black sheet from walmart

3) Three tier lighting tower 4) 2 x 2 table, Cheap kiddie table will do

Okay in order to do this I have provided a photograph of a cheap set up. I also provided some examples of different light angles of the light source. Multiple light sources make a lot of photos scream Halloween. Dont be afraid to get close but not too close. Keep your Camera back about 3.5 feet. That is what your zoom is for.

This pic is of the set up. Depending on your bulb wattage will depend on how close you set your light source. The good thing about the three tier light stand you can hold it at different angles.

Pumpkin with the light source to the proper left Pumpkin with light source overhead

Multiple light source examples.

If you have any questions you can post them in this thread and I can answer them the best I can as I am sure I didnt cover everything. I just wanted to give out some bacs and a cheap set up that you can use.

thanks for the tips matthew. i just need a lighting setup i think. does photoshop play a role in perfecting a look or does lighting really just make all the difference?

Sometimes I mess with photoshop. It is useful for certain things. But lighting and camera adjustments really make all the difference.

This is a great thread...definitely helps.

I think a lot of what my problem is lies with my camera.

It's a cheap digital, but it just has problems with light.

I have tried various setups, and nothing ever works.

I think I just need a new camera first...

This time though, I will try to get a bit higher quality.

Something that doesn't need a fully lit room to work.
