Trick 'R Treat Mega Review Thread

I've been waiting to see this movie for 3 years and I finally got my wish. Joel and I were lucky enough to see a private screening of Trick 'R Treat earlier tonight and the movie lived up to the hype and then some. Actually I was blown away. This movie is what 'A Christmas Story' is to Christmas, one of those movies I will watch every Halloween from now on! It couldn't have anymore of a Halloween night feel to it. The story was brilliant and intertwined seamlessly

throughout. Full review coming soon!

It is nice to see a review that actually makes me feel like i could be as happy with a movie as I want to be. Not many have lived up to the hype and I certainly look forward to reading more reviews and hopefully seeing this once it comes out.

I really liked the review in the blog. It addressed the big question I had (does it live up to the hype) while not giving any spoilers.

Saw this tonight and yeah... AWESOME film.

My Wife didn't like it, but she's just like that.

First of all, the atmosphere was perfect.

No film has ever captured the full feeling of Halloween, save for the original John Carpenter Halloween... and that one only came close.

This film NAILS it.

Secondly, the stories were clasc.

Very creepy individual stories that feel like scary stories you would tell around a campfire.

And the way they all intertwine is really cool and adds to the overall awesomeness of the film.

And Sam is such a great character in the movie, he has presence in every scene he is in.

All of the stories have laughs and twists, clever dialog... it's really an awesome film.

Definitely something that I will watch over and over again, especially on Halloween.

It's a must own for horror fans or fans of the holiday. The bottom line, it's a fun horror film.

Not one of those cringe in your seat gore fests or torture films.

It's just balls out fun, with all of the clasc Halloween myths and urban legends tossed in for a good measure of nostalgia.

It leaves you smiling and wanting more, and is already up in my top 5 horror films.

Great movie.

Well, this one actually lived up to the ridiculously high expectations that I had for it.

It's one of those movies that gets better each time you watch it.

I've seen it three times now, and each time I've noticed something new that I missed.

Also, once you know the outcome of the stories, it's interesting to go back through and hear some of the lines that should have tipped you off in the first place as to what was going to happen, especially the story with the four girls.

Visually, this is a true gem.

I've never seen a movie that was so laden with pure Halloween imagery.

Dougherty's attention to detail is absolutely fantastic.

This is a new Halloween clasc!

It's so good that I bought 2 copies... one for myself and one to give away at my Halloween party this year.

It's one of those films that should be spread around for many people to see.I know that when I have a kid, I will dress him or her up as Sam one year... It WILL be done.

I had been waiting over 3 years for this movie to be released. Without giving too much away, Michael Dougherty does a fantastic job on this movie. There has been so much back and forth on why WB never went to theatres with the movie, and why it took so darn long to release it.

The interwoven story lines in the movie are PERFECT. The mix of the graphic novel/comic and story adds to the film as a whole. The character of Sam, while you can guess what/who he is is revealed at the end and brings all the story lines together.

You aren't left wondering "why!?".

I must admit, that some characters are a bit hokey, but it sure beats the hell out of CG. Michael Dougherty does a fabulous job of weaving everything together and truly incorporating the mystery and lore of Samhain into a carnage-filled, coheve and entertaining movie.

To those who said to him "bring on prettier actors" or "bring in more famous people", screw off! The movie is perfect the way it is and I think the fact that only a few actors are well known separates this movie, from other big budget horror movies which are more about appearance than substance.

So in sum, buy it and show your support, this is going to be a clasc for years to come.

Death by lollipop isn't just for diabetics anymore!

What I don't get is how "Trick R' Treat" the greatest Halloween movie I've ever seen in my life, can posbly be a straight to DVD release, when "Saw X: Jigsaw vs Jason in Space" is put front and centre at Cineplexes everywhere. And did I mention that the best Halloween movie I've ever seen in my life, happens to also be the best anthology movie I've ever seen in my life (though, no other good ones really come to mind)?

"Trick R' Treat" is bacally four short stories seamlessly intertwined with each other, moving ever so elegantly between places, that there is never any down time. As for the stories themselves, there isn't a ngle clunker in the bunch. Every ngle one of them is completely drenched in black comedy and grizzly irony.

Despite the characteristically dark nature of the themes, it never forgets to be in the good spirit of Halloween. Rather then go through the cumbersome effort of trying to be genuinely scary, "Trick R' Treat" instead occupies itself with being light, hilarious, and most of all, fun.

Just finished watching this...and loved it. A film that delivers pitch-perfectly within the limits it sets for itself. By turns genuinely creepy, funny and clever. A definite recommendation.

Death by lollipop isn't just for diabetics anymore Hahahahahahahaha!I was really worried this wouldn't live up to the hype, but, in my opinion, it surpassed the hype.

It was just so much fun to watch.

It captured Halloween night so perfectly. This is definitely going to be a watch every October movie.

When it comes to horror films I'm from the old school. And by 'from the old school' I mean the 80s. Trick 'R Treat represents a perfect call-back to the glory of such horror anthologies as Creep Show and the Tales from the Crypt televion series. Horrible people receive their comeuppance with plenty of irony, macabre humor and terror. All the old EC comicbook horror flair is here. The comic book imagery in the opening credit tells the audience they're back into the glory days before j-horror, pg-13 ratings, and torture porn decimated the genre.

This is how its done. An instant holiday clasc!

So I went in Best Buy and FYE yesterday and neither store had it. That's a bitch! Now I have to order it online and god knows when I'll get to that.

all that truly needs to be said is, that was the sexiest werewolf scene ever. Best use of a mainstream song in a film and absolutely drop dead sexy wolf bitches and bad ass "transformations"

Such an awesome movie. Lots of great ideas in one film. I don't know why I waited so long before I saw it. Very impressed. I also liked how it was cut like a "Tarantino" film. A new favorite? Heck yes.
