It was REALLY great seeing everyone back after all these years!..lol...Once again, set the rules..broke them..flip flopped suspects...Good ole Scream feel! Loved how much everyone was aware of all the typical scary movie stuff, back seat, under the car..etc...And made fun of what horror movies now a days are like...unoriginal and desperate to milk the franchise till its dry..as well as remakes...but, this movie was those milking movies... it kept u guesng and gave you the feeling that you were involved..mentally. And I really appreciated that they brought back how times now are..the way kids act, talk..just like they did in the first one...Same ole Scream! BUT GREAT!..i really enjoyed it and i hope everyone else did!

I really wanted to like this film but ade from a few good moments, jump out scares and a kill kill here and there, this film is not the great film it should have been. I really feel that they missed the tone of the first film, from the look down to the muc and scores. It felt rushed, goofy at times and even had moments when I cringed at how lly it was.

The first film was funny in a witty and smart way. This new film tries to be but most of the time it's either trying too hard to be comical or just not funny. They ruined plenty of scenes with dumb jokes that should have been left in one of the "Scary Movie" sequels.

No don't get me wrong, I am not a hater and I usually like reboots and sequels etc. but seriously the opening and ending to this new film... and they didn't even use any of the muc score from the original trilogy. They should have atleast used the Dewy theme. That was my rant after I went to the midnight showing knowing I had work early the next morning. I feel like popping in the original film just to get this new sequel out of my mind.

I just wanna say I liked the "different" opening scene. It was pretty inventive. The ending I loved it felt like a true scream sequel, not a reboot to get a new audience.

I actually really enjoyed Scream 4 a lot more then I thought.

I loved the opening sequence and the ending.

It wasn't better then the first Scream but IMO it was better then 2 and 3.

I couldn't help but notice when I was walking out of the theater that 2 kids about 10 or 11 years old were raving about the ending and it made me remember the first time I seen Scream so that was really cool.

I really liked it. Watching it really reminded me of how much fun a sequel can be. I also loved how they took stabs at remakes. I actually really enjoyed the opening and ending. Even tho its the fourth movie in the series it seemed fresh but still had the same feel as the first . IT WAS FUN and It was way better than seeing another remake

First off i would like to say i will have a few spoilers in my review.

Scream 4's opening scene was extremely witty and clever, i even liked the way the kill in the opening scene was almost a throw back to the original scream. The whole movie was pretty solid it kept you guesng the whole time, me and my friend are Scream Fanatics and both of us could not figure out the killer or killers in this movie. Great to see fresh faces play the majority of the film, we knew it was about dney but this film focused on more of the newer kids to throw us off. There were a ton of Red Herrings to keep you guesng as well. The ending was a really great idea. I loved every minute of this film and plan on watching it a few more times before it leaves theatres. 4.5/5 for me the best nce the original Scream. Here is where i get with a few spoilers.......

........With almost all of the new kids dead at the end of the film, we didn't get to really see Kirby die we just kow she was stabbed which could lead to her showing up if they do a Scream5,6. As for Jill if anyone else noticed she was moving at the end she could still be alive, no proof that d even survived. This film left a few open windows at the end of the film if a sequel were to be made.

I went to see the midnight showing of Scream 4 and it's taken me until now to really be able to figure out how to put into words.

The thing that makes the first Scream great is it's love for the genre.

"It's a very mple formula".

You have to care about the characters (love or hate) in order for their deaths or the fact that they are in peril to have any effect.

Scream delivered this throught the entire film along with a Slasher who doesn't slowly walk to find you, who talks (on the phone) and who's true idenity isn't revealed until the very end..for this alone I've loved the original Scream nce I saw it in 96.

Scream 2, a let down, Scream 3..I just pretend Sydney was having a nighmare.

Actually I pretend Scream 2 and 3 never happened in the first place....

Scream 4 gets announced and like most of us Scream fans, there is excitement but also that nagging worry that the studio isn't paying attention, like Randy needs to burst into their office and yell, "WERE YOU NOT PAYING ATTENTION THE FIRST TIME, THIS IS HOW IT'S DONE!!

All you need to do is watch the first Scream to know what you SHOULD be trying to achieve.

Scream 4 starts shooting and there are reports from the set of problems with the script, actors dropping out (sounds a bit like Cursed all over again) and rewrites or "polishes" being made.

Still, I'm a glass half full type of guy so I reserved my judgements.

My friend and I get tickets in advance for the midnight showing. Excited all week and now that night has finally arrived..We t down and....the previews won't focus....still remaining calm we wait.....still won't focus....and....STILL WON'T FOCUS....we have to move to another room....Is this a bad gn??

Ehh, Not really??....

Here come the spoilers..The opening scene was clever but I think spent too much time with the jokes and less on actually caring about the two girls that really are killed.

Sydney returns to the town of Woodsboro as the last stop on her self help book tour. It feels like "Oh hey, whats up, Im back, good ol town of Woodsboro, we sure had some times, anyways, on with the book gning", no suspense, no hint of nostalgia, she just pops up.

It would have been nice to see her having to be convinced or at least assured that it was ok to return to that town via a car ride or an office.

I know she wrote a self help book on surviving but even with as something as mple as getting ck off of eating something one time in my life, it wouldnt matter how many times I had eaten that item nce, I would always be a bit hetant on eating it again...it just didnt feel right in my opinion, there was no element of that at all.

At the end of Scream 3 cringe writing that movies name again Gale, Dewey and Sydney seem to be close friends, fast forward 10 years and its like they are strangers.

The town itself didnt feel like Woodsboro either, it was almost like they took some parts of that town and moved it to another city all together.

The police station, the High School, just didnt look right and yes Im being picky because the town in a movie like this is just as important because it is a character as well.

It felt the same as when they recast a main character with someone that just slightly looks and acts the same.

We got to see neighborhoods we didnt see before which is cool but the "return to Woodsboro" feel was not there.

Sydney has an aunt who still lives in that town?

No, I dont think so.

If that was to really happen and you want any type of normal life, you move, you wouldnt raise your kids there, you wouldnt want to go out in public all the time and have to be looked at and whispered about. Not only that but, SHE HAS AN AUNT WHO LIVES IN THAT TOWN?? Never mentioned or hinted at in any of the previous 3 films?

Would they not be targets before to get to Sydney?

Geez....

The scenes that were cut out from the trailer were missed.

My friend made a really great point, it felt like it was the victim of too many hands in the knife drawer.

Good solid ideas that were compromised.

I actually stopped caring about Sydney, Dewey and Gale, that is never a good thing,

I think they stopped caring about acting in this film to be honest..One of them needed to die.

They all survived a lot longer than expected but as this movies tagline says, "New Decade, New Rules"....no, New Decade, pretty much the same rules because it was a not as well done remake of the original with the main three surviving.... again.

That part was a big let down. Gale should have died, there was no need for her to survive because her screen time really wasnt that important. The filmakers need to let go of that approach, its now stale in this franchise and if you dont want it to become stale then really do have to create "new rules".

Speaking of franchise....how can you have a new one when you kill off all the new characters?

Im all for carange in a slasher film I am a horror movie fan after all but leave SOME new people alive.

The original Scream had a group of five main friends, the only three that died were Billy and Stu and Tatum, in this movie?

Guess there has to be a new batch of friends for posble future installments.

Ok here are some good things....The costume was constant and I love seeing it on the screen.

The kills were actually pretty brutal and plenty of them throughout.

The acting wasnt that good but Hayden Panettiere was a real standout, she could totally be a scream queen and I have a new appreciation for her as an actress, she showed up to work and delivered. The reveal of the killer/killers was good, Charlie made sense as the "Randy" character gone psycho and coun Jill being the fame obsessed Sydeny wannabe, I had no problem with who they turned out to be, I just think there should have been more to it than that.

It is the best film nce the original Scream but I just think it fell short and comes dangerously close to being a parody of itself.

Here's hoping there will be a directors cut that shows what they really wanted to achieve.

Scream 4 is a really great sequel. it had awesome kills, a great cast and that true gritty survival feeling. it had the same feel as the first film with the exception that the killer(s) not very believable in my opinion. overall though i giveit an 8 out of 10 would have been a 9 if the killer(s) was mor believable.

What I got from Scream 4 was not at all what I expected. Once I got past the fact that it didn't turn out exactly how I would have written it, I realized that was a (mostly) good thing. This film lacks elements the other installments had, but it also has elements the others did not. Somehow, part 4 manages to be both darker in tone AND even cheekier than the previous films all at the same time. I have to see it again to solidify my feelings, but nce seeing it last night, I have gradually come to believe that Scream 4 may be my favorite of the 3 Scream sequels. Yes, I have a few misgivings about the film. One venerable actress has a very minor role. A few of the cat-and-mouse sequences could have gone on a little longer and been a little more intense. I could have really done without a certain character's dying remarks about Bruce Willis. However, these misgivings seem trifling and inconsequential compared with everything there is to thoroughly love and respect about this film. And anyway, the other installments also had well-known actors being quickly killed off and certain bits that went a little too over the top. Now onto what I loved. Brace yourself: there's A LOT.For one thing, dney Prescott STILL kicks butt, even more so than ever before. She apparently learned to kickbox after all those people tried to kill her, which makes perfect sense for her character. With every Scream movie, I adore Neve Campbell more in this iconic role. The first time she speaks on the phone with Ghostface in part 4, she answers it with a subdued, regned, utterly exhausted "what?". It's a small, brief moment in the film before she musters her bravado to dare Ghostface to bring the fight to her. But this small moment is PERFECTLY acted by Neve Campbell. It's one of those character beats that can make a film. A moment where you say "YES! They got it right!". Where you feel what the character feels. The Scream series has plenty of far-fetched elements that require suspenon of disbelief, so it is lucky they have Neve Campbell to center the films and provide these moments of realism. When killers just KEEP coming, when they just KEEP calling, THIS is how anyone would act. dney's balance of toughness and vulnerability in perfect measure is what makes her one of my favorite characters not just in horror, not just in film, but in ANYTHING. And don't think that biases me to write a potive review of Scream 4 no matter what, because if this character had been handled dishonorably in ANY way, I would rip this film a new one.Now let's talk about the opening sequence. When I first realized what was happening with it, I was thrown. It seemed a little much. But the characters themselves poke fun at how it's a little much, and I soon saw it as a very clever way to both mock and subvert the incredibly high expectations people have for the opening scenes in this franchise. The end result is the same. You get some "actual" dead bodies in short order, but this time we take a more circuitous, playful route to those dead bodies. While trying not to give too much away, let me say that this opening sequence also makes for an interesting debate about what the REAL body count of this film is. The opening is the most tongue in cheek part of the film. Afterwards, some cutesy self-referential dialogue and bickering between characters ade, this film is surpringly darker in tone than chapters 2 or 3, and arguably darker than part 1. Now lets talk about the killer(s). If you are anything like me, when his/her/their identity is revealed, you WILL be surprised. It has been argued that the actual identities of the murderers in the Scream series don't matter much. Well, they certainly matter here. I was more devastated and shocked by the big reveal this time than I have been with any of the other movies in the series. Yes, that includes the first Scream. And I have to say, there is some great acting from the actor(s) and/or actress(es) portraying the guilty parties. While there are some over the top parallels to the way the killers are forced to rough themselves up to make their stories believable in the first film, it is not quite as hammed up this time around. If you like your killers to be psychotic in a more subdued, calculating, cold, cerebral sort of way, rather than a drooling all over themselves kind of way, you will find a lot to admire about the performance here. I actually found myself a little bit MORE intimidated by the killer(s) once the Ghostface costume was disposed of. And, by God, the indictment of our current culture that these revelations provide could not be any clearer, any more astute, or cut any deeper. It's an observation Williamson has made jabs at making in the past Screams, but this time, it's perfected. And the utter truth of the observation is truly chilling, and posbly the most transcendent moment of the whole Scream series so far. For a few minutes, for me at least, it stopped being a fun, lly movie ABOUT movies, and became a true horror movie about US, and what we are becoming as a people. There are minor complaints that could be made about the ending. Again, without giving too much away, the survivors end up having their final showdown in a public place, yet no one comes to their rescue (even though it's kind of their job to do so) but there are several posble explanations you can come up with as to why that may be. Overall, the ending is superb, chilling, fun, and ultimately, even quite sad. This is one dynamite cast. What I respect most about the film is how ballsy and confident it ended up being, despite all the notorious production troubles. If a Scream movie can still end up this good even in the face of such turmoil, then we damn well better get to see a Scream 5 in which lessons of the past can be learned from, and those troubles can be avoided. I say that even though it is not immediately clear where they could go, storywise, from here. The adverting for this film really pulled a fast one on the audience with the whole "new generation" angle. But it is Scream, after all, and pulling a fast one on us has always been the point. A slow opening weekend better not spell the end of this series when it deserves to be on an upswing. Especially nce the only movie that beat it at the box office barely made more money than Scream 4 did. It was a slow movie weekend in general, not just a slow weekend for Scream 4. We were not just climbing up from a receson when the other Scream movies arrived. Any argument that a slower beginning for this installment means the series has no life left in it is completely without merit. Keep the faith, Scream fans. Go see this film as many times as you can posbly afford to. It's worth it both for the quality of this installment, and to help ensure the arrival of the next one.

New Decade, New Rules indeed.

NO SPOILERS!

For those who don’t know, I love slasher flicks and my third favorite series in the genre is the Scream series. Wes Craven is a mastermind and I just want to talk about this movie for a little. I’m not gonna spoil anything that you wouldn’t already know. I just want to talk about Scream as a whole and this movie.

——

I just got back from viewing Scream 4 and I loved it! I’m a hug fan of the original trilogy so hearing they planned on making more only excited me because it had to be good right? the first three were.

The series as a whole comments on the horror genre as a whole and at the time.

The first movie commented on the whole slasher genre. The second movie commented on continuation of horror films (sequels) and motives. The third movie commented on rehashing ideas and also commented on (the very rare horror triliogy) and how all bets are off, forget everything you thought you knew…this is it.

The 4th movies comments on a horror’s new state this decade which are (remakes remakes remakes) This movie is in no way a remake of the first but with what I can just told you, you could infer that it deals alot with remake talk.

The movie was handled milarly to the other movies, everyone is a suspect and no one should be exempted. d, Gale and Dewey still have their spark from the first but the movie isn’t so much about them as it is the return of Ghostface to Woodsboro.

The gore is brought, the rules are new, the celebs are in droves and of course our favorite shrouded hooded figure is back.

It’s awesome. I recommend it for fans and non fans of the series. It even take a slight look into todays society period with not wanting to work to be famous, and to have recognition.

Watch this movie!

I went to see scream 4 on it's opening day.I had been waiting on it's release with great anticipation and I have to say Im very pleased with how well it turned out. It's a great movie and for any fans who haven't seen it I urge you to go because any true horror fan will love it.It was awesome seeing Neve Campbell (dney Prescott),David Arquette (Dewey Riley) and Courteney Cox (Gale Weathers Riley) back together again. They have the best onscreen chemistry together.I had been also looking forward to the new generation cast. They tied in to the film well.I was really happy to see Emma Roberts (Jill Roberts) in this film.I had heard of her being Julia Roberts niece and I saw some pictures of her.She has the right look for a horror movie.Yeah that is one nice looking woman.I hope to see her in future horror movies. Hayden Panettiere (Kirby Reed) did an excellent job also.I had high expectations for this film and I was pleased from begining to end.Tommorow begins another week so if you haven't saw it yet you don't want to miss out. It's a wild ride that will leave you with a satisfying ending.

I was about 12 when i first saw "Scream" after raiding the video cupboard whilst my mum was asleep blissfully unaware upstairs.. I think nce that moment i have adored the Scream franchise. The first film is a cult clasc, but we all know that. The Second.. Meh.. the third ensured the franchise went out with a mahoove bang!

When i first heard Scream was being rebooted, i prayed for it not to be a remake (I'm not a huge fan of remakes). When they announced it was a sequel.. i really started to get excited.

Scre4m was exactly what i wanted it to be, fun, scary and downright cheesy. It was so important they kept with the original tone of the films for the original fans. But it also let a whole new audience in with the back story being explained.

The original cast were great, and the beginning was very inventive, that really pulled me into the film.

It was JUMPY. I jump so ealy, i'm a flap. There seemed to be a lot more blood in this one, maybe because nowadays, they can actually make it look realistic as opposed to tomato ketchup mixed with wee.

The killings were pretty good, acting was very credible, especially from Emma Roberts.

The ending was spectacular, i haven't spoken to one person who saw that coming.. Although i kind of wish the "last killing" had been left out.. I like a movie to end on suspense, it makes a sequel more anticipative.

If you love the originals, you will in no doubt love this, apart from that its more of a teen slasher, newer older audiences probably won't find its that good in comparison to some more modern horror films..

I really hope they do another one, keep this franchise alive!

Well I can't say I agree with most of what you said, but I strongly agree that they should have left the "last killing" out of the film to leave it on a suspenseful note.

Scream will always be the ultimate movie for me as it was the very first horror movie I ever saw. I went into Scream4 with as much of an open mind as I could muster. The whole of the movie felt like a waste of Craven and Williamsons brilliance. I wanted dney and Gale to die. Dewey was almost a non entity in the entire film. Bacally I was left with why bother. After hearing the podcast though I cant wait to see the alternate opening scene! And I'm still amazed they didnt include the iconic scene of the all the kids tting next to the fountain! FAIL!
