Is It Really Real? Hate Crime (2012)

What is this that’s come across my desk? The film is on for about five minutes before things go off the rails. The film is James Cullen Bressack’s Hate Crime, a found footage film that I actually began wondering if it truly was fiction.A family moves into a new area and is celebrating the youngest boy’s birthday. A pretty mundane evening at home until all hell breaks loose. A trio of Neo Nazis bust in (including one who looks like he stepped out of the video game Manhunt) and proceed to rake havoc. Not regular havoc either, but take the famous video tapped home invaon of Henry Portrait of a Serial Killer and make that a movie. That is what you’re in for.

It’s a hard film to talk about without giving away anything, surface it to say that this film is brutal and only for the hardcore! Anyone else might not make it through it. There is a method to the madness though and a message to be heard. This is a hard film to t through, but ultimately eaer than any of the August Underground films.

Hate Crime is the second full length film by one man film crew James Cullen Bressack. The kid has talent. Editing a film is hard, but even harder when the footage is “LIVE”. That is the technical achievement of Hate Crime, it appears to be a ngle shot all the way through. The film is so real that it had me looking out my window waiting for a car to pull up. The important thing about horror is that it generates a phycal reaction.

Few films at this level do this; however, Hate Crimes is an exception.

As I said, this film is not for everyone. But if you love hardcore realistic horror, this is one to get your hands on. There’s a lot of technical promise in this kid. You might want to jump on board now.
