Under the Bed (2012) (DVD Review)

Every child knows about the monster under the bed Neal Hausman s mistake was trying to fight it. Neal (Jonny Weston, Chang Mavericks) has returned from a two-year exile following his tragic attempt to defeat the monster, only to find his father ticking ever closer to a breakdown, a new stepmother who fears him, and his little brother Paul (Gattlin Griffith, Green Lantern, Changeling), terrorized by the same monster. While Neal and Paul work together to try and fight the nocturnal menace, their parents are taking desperate measures to get the family back to normal. With no support from their parents, the brothers have nothing to rely on but each other, and courage beyond belief.

I’ve enjoyed every film I’ve seen by Steven C. Miller in some way or another and this is no different. Under the Bed reminds me in some ways of stuff like The Gate from the 80s. We have two troubled kids having to deal with issues at home and under the bed here and while the first half of the film isn’t as exciting as the last it still is a nice little film. I do wish the movie had an early half to match the later half because I really do think the best part of the film is when things get really going and the gore comes into effect. The character development at the start is hit and miss and more miss overall.

If we focus on the rest we have a movie where heads are ripped off and the environment of the film looks the best and is at its peak. The monster will be loved by some and hated by others, but I didn’t mind it. The whole monsters under the bed thing has been done before, but this one does seem fresh if I am to be perfectly honest. I feel the movie isn’t perfect, but it is more hit than miss when you take everything into conderation. It has dull parts at the start. Still, it gets fun later.
