My $60 Mask of the Year!!!!

Man I struggled with how to title this post. I really wanted to try to capture my experience earlier tonight in one sentence. I have been collecting "custom" horror masks and props for well over a decade now. I'm not tting on a vault of the most elite masks, the rarest of autographs nor do I have an animatronic spinning head Linda Blair doll attached to my bed. No I have a fairly modest collection compared to some. But I am proud of what I have and when people stop by they like to go around the house to see the "cool" nick knacks.

So we had a few people over earlier tonight. Around 10 or so to watch the Derby, play a few video games and drink a few beers. Each and everyone of them walk in the house. They comment on my life ze Myers standing near the doorway as they enter.

They pick up prop knives and machetes. They try on hockey masks and gawk at the ole Pam Voorhees head on my counter. They check out everything, I have $800 super ultra rare uber masks staring them in the face. They let out a "that's cool" or "hey this is neato". But that's about it. But they walk up to my $60 "Chunks" the clown mask from Fearscape and you would have thought it was the Lord Jesus Christ starring them right in the face. I am pretty sure one guy was weeping in the back. They LOVED the damn thing. It would have been different if it was just 1 or 2 people, but all 10 of them flocked to it!!!!Now I am not knocking on ole Chunks, I love the mask! How Fearscape delivers that kind of quality for that price is insane. But why aren't they nerding out over my Second Stab or my Tom Sullivan gned Book of the Dead? Half the people would walk by my '93 JGTH Cinema Secrets mask, which looks NOTHING like the mask from the new remake (ITS NOT EVEN THE SAME COLOR FOLKS) and guess what they would say, yep that's right! "Hey......"that's the mask from the new remake, how cool!". I stopped correcting them after the 4th person said it. I just nodded and said yep, from the remake.

Damn these people and there lack of horror knowledge. That's why I love this place. I can post something from my collection and I get cheers and compliments. Not the usual reply to every Myers mask I own...."isn't that the guy from Friday the 13th?"

The moral of the story is, normal people are stupid! My Jeremy Bohr Toxic Jason looks nothing like the Swamp Thing!Good night everyone!

LMAO

That was a fun read Boo!! My ex-girlfriend's mother saw my costume pics on the net and just flipped

"Why the pale white face?" She would ask...

It's nice to hear about the masks that you don't have to sell a kidney to afford getting the attention that they deserve.I can see why they would have that reaction over Chunk.

It just shows that this truly is a niche hobby.

I'll bet if you pulled 100 people off the street and gave them the choice between a 1975 Captain Kirk and Chunk The Clown, 99 of them would choose Chunk, hands down.

It's easy to see why this guy is such an attention getter:

People who have been in the office lately come in and stare at things and more times then not they say damn your jason is the shit. Funny thing he was only around 200 for the entire display. With the hockey mask being more than the mask I kinda laugh and say yeah it is pretty badass and I only paid a fraction of the price for it compared to my other masks.

You gotta love Darkde studios for that.

Good god, I can't stand it when people fuck things up in horror.

I used to only think that it was this small town I live in that fuck up Jason and Myers...

At least now I can see it's not only here, but everyware...

Most of them are always saying, Nice Jason mask when they look at my PsychopatH V1... OR Vice Versa with my Camp Killer Set from Prop Shop....

It's the most annoying thing ever... Oh yeh on the same note, the many people who have seen my chainsaw so far have said, "Nice TCM Chainsaw"... --Ryan

Chunk is a great mask, of course he's going to stand out in a collection. That $800 Myers mask looks exactly the same as a $40 Myers mask to someone who doesn't collect.

People don't show interest in what they don't know...nothing surpring about that.

It's the same reason a $200 myers mask gets a lot more attention on this forum than a $2000 original artist piece.

I've been complimenting everyone's Chunk mask for almost a year now.

It's about damn time I landed a copy of my own.

I'm more than happy to say, I'm now a proud owner of a Fearscape Chunk the Clown mask!

Damn this thread as now I want one of them Chunks. lol

I certainly know how you felt though Booman as I have had people over as of late and they call Michael jason or pinhead and freddy as Cropsy and so on. It is amazing how little people know each one but at the same time as was said if people don't collect this stuff they don't know what ones are worth more and so on. I have fouund most of the time my cheapest masks are what get peoples attention the most.
