What got you into horror collecting?

What led to your love of horror collecting?

For me it has been one of those things that I have kinda always been into. I loved slasher movies growing up. I can remember one summer renting all the Friday the 13th movies and watching them over and over again. I think I was Jason about 4 years in a row for Halloween ending my earlier streak as

Dracula with the plastic fangs.Evil Dead was the pinnacle 80's popcorn horror flick

(lol) that Fenner and I laughed at back in 4th grade elementary (we still quote Evil Dead lines daily, Bruce Campbell is like a God to us).I mainly started collecting figures and worked my way slowly from autographs to masks to posters to props the list goes on and on. I am not sure if it was a way to stay in touch with that boy in me that loved watching Myers or Freddy tear through someone or what but I always have loved this hobby.

My tastes have changed throughout the years but I still get giggly when I see something new that I must have. Horror collecting is really just starting out though many of us have been doing it for awhile. It still is certainty not "mainstream". Most people could walk into a perfect strangers house tonight and if they had a gned Micky Mantel rookie card more times than not people would be impressed. You take that same scenario and change it to a Kane Hodder gned Hatchet replica most people are running for cover. Terms like serial killer and insane asylum are usually accompanied when people see my lifeze Michael Myers standing in my doorway. Compared to baseball cards we have a ways to go.

But its definitely a fun and rewarding hobby and if your one of us. One of the "special" people that are into this hobby. You see that hatchet replica or that Myers starring you in the face and your in nerd heaven. No we have a long way to go, thats for sure, but you can't say this hobby isn't fun...

Well for me I've always collected horror movies...I love watching all kinds of horror. Got that from my mother, we always watched horror movies she taped off TV when I was younger. The original Nightmare on Elm Street started it all.

Collecting other horror stuff...I guess I really got into that when I started coming here

Before this place I had no idea all of the cool collectibles that were out there.

Ironiclly, it was when I was looking for a decent "WHITE" mask. That was back in the Fall of 1997. I first came upon "Kreation X's" te, and thought his mask was the greatest looking copy I ever saw, and from there, I found other tes that had an array of different things. So yeah, it was "WHITEY" that got me started, but has nce died out, as a result of all the turmoil and grief that comes with it.

I can actually t here and say with complete seriousness, that I have ALWAYS loved Latex masks! I can remember being little and going to Murphy's Drug Store with my Grandma around HalloweeN and seeing there Halloween Costume line up for the year. I spotted a Dracula mask and thought it was the koolest thing I ever seen! LOL... My Grandma bought it for me and I was the happiest kid you ever saw!

Later on down the road when I was around 7 years old or so, I went to my friend's house which was actually my neighbor. His older brother left his bedroom door open and he was MUCH older then me. I remember being nosey and peeking in seeing a shelf full of masks and a shelf just loaded down with Horror Movies. He came up and seen me gloating over his stuff and gave me a tour around his collection. It was then at that moment when I started collecting! It wasn't nothing serious as I was young and I opened up my figures and stuff, but thats were it all began!

I geuss I can't say that I hate ebay or dislike it. If anything I actually owe them respect. If it wouldn't have been for ebay, I would have never noticed indepentant art as far as masks were concerned. It was a new introduction to my collecting and I've been learning ever nce. One thing is for sure, you never stop learning new things when you are a collector...

From that point I can remember saying to myself, "Oh My God!!! Who Pays over 100 bucks for a mask??????!!!!!!!!" haha, now I t back and laugh thinking to myself, 100 bucks in condered a cheaper mask in this hobby of indepentant work. So... Yes this hobby is very fun in the least! I'd like to think of this hobby as a never ending adventure of madness! lol... You never know what you might find at a yardsale or hell even an auction. You never know what pieces you are going to find or what is going to be made in the future. It keeps us as collector's on our toes with excitment.

On that note,

I tip my glass to all those who are in on this adventure and are here to share there fun and experiances with us!!! I may not be able to spell right, but horrorbid has changed my life in so many fantastic ways and for that I am thankfull!

Yeah. Those were some days. I also was on the "Back Talk" board. That actually is where EA and Jim Harville came up with The HMA, I think.

When I was a kid I always wanted those high end latex monster masks that were placed high on the shelves during Halloween season but never had the dough. Always dreamed of starting a collection while flipping through the ads in Fangoria,Starlog, etc.. I thought when I started making my own money I'd start collecting. As many of you know I'm a huge white mask fan but couldn't find any DP ones nearby. During junior high I had to move back to Japan. This meant I wouldn't be able to collect horror masks. When it comes to movie prop replicas and collectables, Japan is more into Sci-Fi stuff so I collected alot of StarWars stuff. I'm also a movie addict, especially horror;duh,,, so I have a nice collection of videos,DVDs,posters, books, etc. Around the year '99 I was in Seattle for awhile during Halloween season. I was about to enter this bar and I saw this couple dressed in costumes leaving the venue. What struck me instantly was that the guy was dressed as the Shape. I stared at him in awe while he stared right back at me. It made me remember how much I loved the iconic white mask. From then I knew I had to have one... To my surprize, the white mask was not at all popular among the Japanese horror fans. Jason and Leatherface were extremely popular so there was no way for me to find a white mask on this little island. Luckily there was the internet so I found the early stages of the now popular white mask te.You guys know the rest of the story...

My uncle who was an artist lived next door to me when I was a kid. He was a HUGE Frazetta freak and his house was covered with Frazetta paintings along with other horror/fantasy posters; paintings and masks. When I was 8 he gave me an original run of 1-15 VAMPIRELLA books! I'd stare at these book covers; paintings and old latex masks and I was hooked. I started watching horrors around then as well and just got deeper and deeper into the scene and hobby. Now Im in my 30's and I have a pretty extenve collection of horror books; dvd's; posters; masks; figures; etc. I cant get enough!

I wish, these are all the 90's reissues. I sure wish they were from the 60's. They are still worth quite a bit, especially the Frankenstein's and the veron 1 & 2 creatures. The wolfman masks bring quite a bit as well, especially veron 2... I made a little magazine ad like the one you'd see in the Famous Monsters of Filmland magazine. I have it as my wallpaper on my computer...LOL
