TALES FROM THE CRYPT is a popular show based on EC Comics that originally aired on HBO from 1989-1996. Hosted by the Crypt Keeper himself, the long running series told many tales of Terror in a unique way that is still very effective to this day. There have also been different movie versions throughout the years in different forms.

Over ten months ago, TNT announced that they will be partnering with M. Night Shyamalan to bring the much beloved Horror anthology series back to the small screen. TNT gave a 10-episode order for the TALES FROM THE CRYPT TV series which will be hosted by a new Crypt Keeper as part of a weekly multi-series Horror Block that Shyamalan will be overseeing.

At first, Shyamalan had plans to create season-long story arcs for the show. Then later on he changed his mind and said that he was thinking of doing individual episodes instead, as the original show did.

Shyamalan recently spoke with Crave about where he will be drawing the inspiration from:

Crave: "So you’re not just going to do your own thing."

Shyamalan: "No, no, no."

Crave: "You’re going back to the original stories?"

Shyamalan: "These are the comics, yeah."

Crave: "What’s your favorite one from the comics that hasn’t been done yet?"

Shyamalan: "There’s a bunch. I have a folder of my favorites, like my twenty or thirty favorites. I’m trying to remember them. I mean they’re so weird. There’s one where there’s a bewitching one, where an old lady bewitches and takes the wife, and the husband has to figure it out. He keeps the old lady in the closet but that’s really his wife now. They’ve swapped, you know? And he can’t kill this woman but she’s now a beautiful woman."

There you have it, Shyamalan will be sticking with the source material for TNT's TALES FROM THE CRYPT.

As for when we can expect to see this new version of the show, TNT and TBS President Kevin Reilly previously stated that:

“Tales will be on towards the end of ’17, in the fourth quarter ’17.”
