A CHUCKY TV Series Is Being Developed For SYFY!

A CHILD'S PLAY remake is set to be heading to theaters this summer, and the original Good Guy doll will be heading to SYFY.

That's right, a CHUCKY TV series is officially in the works over at SYFY.

THR reports that SYFY won a multiple network bidding war to earn the rights to be able to develop a series based on Chucky himself.

Don Mancini will be in charge of penning the script for the new CHUCKY TV series as well as executive produce along with David Kirschner and Nick Antosca. The new series will be produced at Universal Cable Productions, where Antosca has a deal in place to develop new content.

Mancini tells THR:

"I've long wanted to bring Chucky to television and Syfy is the perfect network for us. The show will be a fresh take on the franchise, allowing us to explore Chucky's character with a depth that is uniquely afforded by the television series format, while staying true to the original vision that has terrorized audiences for over three decades now."

Antosca adds:

"I worked with Don on Hannibal and on Channel Zero for Syfy, so developing Chucky with UCP really feels like coming home. Syfy is the perfect place to tell the next chapter in the Chucky saga and having the original creative team lead the project will help elevate the story we are excited to tell."

As of right now there are no casting or plot details but just last year Mancini made it known that the potential series was deliberately set up at the conclusion of the latest film in the franchise CULT OF CHUCKY. He went on to say that the series would be darker than ever before.

During that same conversation back then, Mancini also revealed that Brad Dourif would reprise his role of the voice of Chucky while Kirschner confirmed that the series is expected to be a continuation of the franchise rather than a reboot.
