Rob Zombie's Halloween 2 - 1 Year Later

Rob Zombie's Halloween 2 hit theaters exactly one year ago today. Not only has it been a fast year but what are your thoughts a year later about the film?

The first 20 minutes(dream sequence) was like a homage to the original. After that it was like RZ's way of saying "screw you guys, I'm making my own movie!!"

I'll accept it as it is

I will still not see it. There is only one Hallowen for me and that was made in 1981.

i dont blame you there one bit

One year later and I feel the same.... RZ's H2 provided me with a very old school fun horror experience at the movies. It was shot beautifully...I loved the choice of 16mm, loved the cinematography, the sound was stellar; It was brutal! I thought the movie was violent and that RZ returned the Myers character back to his brutal, evil self. The way he was supposed to be, not what became of him in films like H5 or H8. There was some good acting, and some over acting....there was a lot of good scenes, and several bad. Overall I liked it, and a year later I still do.

Also, Mane is the best Myers nce Warlock.

I have tried to justify this movie as much as I can because I had such hopes for it. I made peace with all the dramatic character changes and the over the top kills but in the end the only thing that killed the movie was that damn horse and Robs talentless wife. But on the plus de Brad Douriff was awesome!!!

The first remake Zombie did was stellar. Loved it inde and out. Ive watched it with my dad on many occaons, he also loves it. The sequel was a mindfuck. I wasnt expecting what was delivered. I was very happy with it. Its a reimagining which is what people dont tend to grasp. Ofcourse it was far different from the originals...thats the fucking point. It was an amazing story, and Zombies interpretation only brought out more in a great concept.

You never see a sequel that shows the brutal aftermath of its predecessor. It was realistic in that sense. If what happened to everyone in the first film actually occurred, it would fuck your whole life up, and Zombie showed that rare, intimate honest de. This was a far more intelligent movie than the original Halloween and its sequels. Ade from Sheri Moons character (which was amazing in the original) the film was solid as hell. Brad Dourif's role took it home for me. The moment when he finds Annie dead, has to be the most realistic, upsetting, gut-wrenching scene/acting moment in any horror movie ever. I choked up during that scene.

It was a balls-to-the-wall film. Who cares if Zombie said "Screw it, Im making a film for me" Thats what matters. He had the chance to make his own veron how he wanted it. Its a very respective attitude. If no directors took that kind of leap, hundreds of your favorite films would not exist. Its people who make movies to satisfy their audience only and to make money which causes the entire horror genre to lose any integrity it once had. Dont hate Zombie, hate the people who steal the light from true fans of genre to make mindless, senseless bullshit.

End of rant.

I agree, if some big ass guy came and killed a majority of your friends and the people you thought were your family your personality would defiantly change. I understand why Zombie changed Laurie in the manner that he did, her whole world came crashing down on Halloween night so why not have f*** it attitude. As for Loomis, his life's work was Myers, he tried everything he could to help him and he failed. But now that he thinks Myers is dead why not try to make a little money out if it, the marketing value is already huge. Brad Douriff is still awesome, in my opinion he made the movie. Then we get to Sherri Moon Zombie, the first scene she was in was fine, it was a flashback to a day at the sanitarium, that was fine. However she had no purpose to be in the rest of the movie. Its hard to watch any scene with her where I dot want to kick her in the face. Without a doubt that killed the movie. If he took her out of it and had subtle references to the white horse it might have been bearable. All in all this movie sucks and it is truly painful to watch, I rank it with Batman and Robin and the Super Mario Brothers Movie.

one other point id like to add bedes sheri moon sucking badly is that there was no point in having loomis in the movie for as much as he was, while macdowell is a fine actor either his scripting and direction sucked or he just mailed it in
Johnny Bisco Thursday 9/02/2010 at 07:20 PM | 65912
No, actually there was a point for Dr Loomis being in the movie, because if you recall, if you actually watched the movie that is, is that Lori bought his book and that is how she found out she was Micheal Myers' ster. And the scenes with him being a dick and a sellout made the idea believable, that he would publish a book with information that could be that damaging to someone who was a victim of Myers. Now that it has been a year later nce H2 came out, I have to say that I am really glad to see people on here defending the movie.I saw it opening day when it came out, then again a few days later with my friends who couldn't go on opening day..I liked it the first day I saw it, and I liked it even better the second time..My friend Travis liked it too.But online that was another story. Someone called me an ass kisser on facebook, because Bill Moseley asked on there what everyone thought of H2, and I left a comment saying I liked it.That was pretty rude, I don't go around insulting people on Facebook like that.

And other places I saw negative critiques of the film, and it wasn't even constructive criticism, just a bunch of insults directed towards Rob and Sheri.

A year later, I still like the movie. I don't mind the white horse or Sheri's appearances, infact there is the idea that maybe Micheal is just hallucinating her, or maybe she is a ghost. After all, if you look into the history of Halloween, there is the belief among ancient and modern Pagans that Halloween or Samhain is the holiday when the veil between the world of the dead and the world of the living is the thinnest.I thought all the surreal imagery in the film was really cool. I don't think people should have criticized Zombie so harshly for it. What did everyone who talked shit want? An exact copy of the original Halloween 2, with a bunch of 20 something male and female nurses trying to hook up with eachother, then getting killed by Micheal? Fucking boring in my opinion.

You know what else? I actually got to meet Rob Zombie 2 months ago. At Mayhem fest when it came to my area. I got to meet him and his band and got a cd autographed, and that night, his concert was probably the most fun I have had at a concert so far. That makes me appreciate all

his movies even more and I can't wait til he starts making another movie.
Moon Friday 9/03/2010 at 01:03 AM | 65924
hey man its all good, i probably like movies others hate too (jason x being one of them)

yes there was a point to loomis in the movie, but for what his character did in it and the purpose (being the book) it was still too many scenes for my taste because he mailed it in, he didnt have the pason he had in the first one, they could have cut his screen time in half and it still would have worked thats all im saying

thats my opinion and im sticking to it
Johnny Bisco Friday 9/03/2010 at 01:50 AM | 65930
On the topic of Sheri Moon....

Personally I liked her a lot as "Baby". She hasn't done much else outde of Rob's films. As Michael's mother in H1, I thought she did a decent job, no better or worse than most no name actors we get in horrors. Sure, she gets the role because shes married to the director.

In H2, I thought the horse and the ghost mom were cool, thats just my opinion and I respect those who didnt dig it. But to read people saying that they hated the film BECAUSE of Sheri? Oh wait, the gaggle of horrible shit actors from H5 on didnt disturb you at all? culminating in one of the biggest hack moves Ive ever seen with Busta Rhymes pulling karate on Michael?

ny ghoul Saturday 9/04/2010 at 12:16 AM | 65937
Evan you know me, i have different reasons to dislike the film, sheri isnt the reason i hate it, i cant stand her in general, she was good in devils rejects, and for the most part in rzs h1, the other movies i didnt like her performance at all (especially the over doing it with laughter perfromance in HO1C)

i think a lot of peoples problems with her stem from the fact that rob wont do a movie without her being in it and that he came up with the horse thing just to get her in it, in all honesty if you took her scenes and the horse completely out, reduce the lame dialogue lauries friends have, reduce the amount of time the ambulance guy says fuck, reduce the loomis scenes to only whats only necessary it would probably be very good and rank much higher up the halloween totem with me, the only ones that rank worse than this one is h5 and ressurection
Johnny Bisco Saturday 9/04/2010 at 12:51 AM | 65939
I dont think Rob invented the whole ghost deal for his wife, but theres no doubt he never had anyone else in mind for the role lol.

Funny you mention the dialogue between Laurie's friends....that was the one aspect that made me cringe. I think Rob is getting older, hasn't had kids of his own and seems a bit out of touch with what teens/young people are really like these days. Laurie's girlfriends were crafted as if my dad wrote their scenes! cheesy, hokey and embarasng.

Plus, sure many people into metal and rock go back to their roots, but a bunch of chics going rabid for MC5? that was my main issue. The ambulance guy....his fuck fest made me uncomfortable, thus I believe it worked. I think it was realistic as I have had the same reaction after stubbing a toe.

I'd LOVE to see some fan re-edits. Bisco, if you ever do one, please make me a copy!
ny ghoul Saturday 9/04/2010 at 03:39 AM | 65942
bro you know i will!

and MC5 fucking rocks, but youre also talking to a metro Detroiter

Johnny Bisco Saturday 9/04/2010 at 04:33 AM | 65943
Detroit bands never seem to get the credit they deserve. (same with sports teams, as bad ass as the Wings are they dont get the glory/attention as other teams). NEGATIVE APPROACH rules!!!!

now THAT would have been cool....a chic with a shaved head, boots and braces playing "Ready to Fight" in the record store!
ny ghoul Saturday 9/04/2010 at 06:43 PM | 65955
now if that would have been in the movie, id rewind that scene over and over hahahahaha!
Johnny Bisco Saturday 9/04/2010 at 07:05 PM | 65957
I think if Rob started "Halloween" with young michael eating candy corn and then going off killing his family, eliminated the sanitarium scenes, picked up again with him escaping and ended with the dream sequence from H2 when it looked like Michael was gonna kill Laurie, his movie may have been watchable, but nce he didn't his movies sucked a big one. Still do a year later
