First off I just want to say that I caught Stepehn King's CUJO on AMC for the first time ever the other night. Forgive me for not seeing this earlier, I have no idea as I am a huge PET SEMETARY and Stephen King fan. Anyhow and we touch on this on the radio show that will likely play later today but will this film ever get remade and could they even do it these days with all the strick animal laws?
It's a TERRIFIC film! Actually one of my new favs, dare I say it may even make my top 10 or 20 list of great horror films. This sounds lly but the dog did a fantastic job! No CGI here folks, this was 1983 I believe? They have that dog go from a loving pet to a viscious killer and the makeup was fantastic. Not to mention Dee Walace, fantastic!
So the question is, will they ever remake this and if they do you just know they would ruin it with CGI? You guys have to agree right?

I love CUJO. It's a movie that gets you every time you watch. No cgi. Just good old fashioned terror. I hope they never, ever try to remake it. It just can't be done. Plus society has changed were they would scream animal cruelty so it would be watered down cgi crap. Their was another film Mans Best Friend that tried to do the crazed dog thing and it just didn't work for me.

I would love to see a Cujo remake but there would be use of CGI and it would be watered down to nothing

Cujo shouldn't be remade, but I'm sure it will. There was a movie made in the 70s, I think, called DOGS that is one that could be remade. I was gonna mention it on the RIR show, but it slipped my mind.

Cujo is a great film from a great era. They used raw egg whites to get that slimy look for Cujo in the latter parts of the film. There are a lot of great extras on the special edition of the DVD including interviews

I wondered what they did to that poor dog to make it look like that! I'm ready to watch it again, is CUJO on blu-ray, does anyone know?

Yep egg whites. What I thought was really funny was that the dog that played the part of Cujo would like the egg white mixture off his chops so they would have to constantly reapply. And I just checked and there is a 25th anniversary edition on blu-ray that came out November 9, 2009 Amazon has it for $11.49

I hope it never is remade but I also said that about lots of other films. This is just such a perfectly made movie and the idea they would use nothing but CGI would kill it right off. This is much like The Breakfast Club(I know ung a non horror movie) IMO as it just can't be done and shouldn't. No way could you ever capture the way it was in The Breakfast Club as you couldn't with Cujo. Man's Best Friend tried and failed horribly. The way you feel when you saw the dog bit and the changes you saw it go through couldn't even come anywhere near. Hell it would be like trying to recapture the look and feel of Jaws. It just shouldn't be done and if anyone tries they should be beaten to a pulp.
