Will SCREAM 5 and 6 Happen?

With SCREAM 4 opening yesterday in a whopping 3,300 theaters the verdict is still out on what the film will gross on its initial weekend. Going head to head with 20th Century Fox’s family film RIO (which is in 3D) will no doubt be a tough opponent the "hard R" rated horror fest. The question fans will be itching to know is what is going to happen with SCREAM 5 and 6?If you rewind back to July 14, 2008 when SCREAM 4 was initially announced the Weinstein Company was billing it as a start of a "brand new trilogy". Screen writer Kevin Williamson has stated that he even penned a rough script for the 5th and 6th installments. This however took place before the studio brought writer Ethan Krueger in to rewrite much of Williamson's script which caused a huge uproar during the initial week of shooting the 4th installment as much of the cast saw their parts being changed and altered. Fast forward to this, the opening weekend for the film. Without giving away any spoilers a 5th and 6th film in the series seems much harder to imagine but this is horror. Wes Craven has already stated that he would be interested in coming back for the next two films, completing the proposed "new trilogy".The question now becomes, does this all depend on the box office numbers? Well of course you're thinking. But again, do we need another two films in the series? And what exactly do they Weinsteins project as a "lucrative" opportunity to create the next two films? Remember, HALLOWEEN 3 was greenlit during the opening weekend of Rob Zombie's H2 with no movement at all taking place. Not to mention a sequel to the remakes of FRIDAY THE 13TH and A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET.What is the "magic" number that the studio needs to see here and do you the fans want to see the story continue? This of course is geared to those of you that have already saw the film. With a solid Thursday "midnight" showing and strong potive reviews from at the younger (18-24) crowd that turned out in strong numbers, time will tell. Is $20 million for the opening weekend enough? How about $30 or $40 million? At what point does the money start dictating more films in the series and does the series warrant two more films? It will no doubt be interesting to see how things unfold. We will be here with you all weekend with non stop coverage and updates on how well the film is performing. Stay tuned and we would love to hear your thoughts as well.

Well, I'm up for anything, as long as they kill d eventually.

Well I think if it does happen, it will have no connection to these original characters.

They pretty much set that up in the 4th film with one particular line.

When they are talking about the Stab movies, it is mentioned in the conversation when asked how could they make 7 Stab movies they said they abandoned the original plot after the 4th movie and just made new stories.

Or something along those lines.

So maybe it was foreshadowing future films.

As much as I was looking forward to this movie, it feels like it's time to stop.

The story was so choppy and the characters were completely underdeveloped (with the exception of maybe Kirby & Jill - who weren't themselves even in the movie that much).

The series may have finally jumped the shark.

But then again, I'm 34 years old...way out of that 18-24 demographic, so does it matter what I think?

At least I got to enjoy the original in the theater opening weekend back in 1996 and went on to see it 6 times on the big screen.

There should DEFINITELY be a Scream 5 and 6, at least. And dney should not die unless it is towards the end of part 6 and done EXACTLY right. That means she MUST die in some form of heroic fashion, and there MUST be a suitable "new" main protagonist, or group of protagonists, to pass the torch to. It would be difficult, though not imposble, to find a heroin or hero for this series that would have as much charisma and staying power as dney Prescott. I hope d doesn't die at all, but I could stomach it if her death is handled well. Now, as for Gale and Dewey, I love them both, but at least one of them should meet their end in part 5. This is another case where the death scene must be PERFECT. I hate to see any of these 3 characters go, but for the sake of realism, I think at least of them has to eventually die. And, as much as I love Dewey, and think he is compelling, I think he should be the one to die. It makes for the most interesting story, because really, dney and Gale only seem to EVER get along because of their shared affinity for Dewey. If the killer gets Dewey, I feel like dney and Gale would be at one another's throats again, thus making them both eaer targets. Sort of a "divide and conquer" type angle. Plus, Dewey has been stabbed twice and has been revealed to be quite clumsy. Yes, he's also a survivor, and quite heroic, but I feel like his haplessness alone means his days must be numbered.

And yet again, if Dewey dies, it better be gotten right, and it better be in a heroic fashion.Another posbility is to actually do what they pretended they were doing for part 4. Find a way to transfer the fixation of the killer(s) onto someone other than dney, and have dney gradually assume more of a protector/ supporting role. I am not sure how to do this exactly, though several ideas come to mind. Other characters taking a more prominent role does not automatically mean dney has to die. This character deserves to eventually find peace in her life, without being the primary target of a killer. Eventually, the writers should let a new person do something to piss a killer off enough to distract them from dney's trail.

I'd love to see a 5 and 6. If it was good lol... They need to find some way to kind of shake things up. I saw 4 last weekend and thought it was pretty good. 1st and 2nd are better and 3rd and 4th tho imo. But if 5 and 6 do happen i hope Wes and Williamson get to do things there ways. Then i believe they atleast wouldn't suck... you know?
