Chris Pine In Talks For "Robocop" Remake?

The upcoming remake of the 1987 film "Robocop" is a high priority for the recently bankrupt and then back again MGM. Brazilian director Jose Padilha (Elite Squad) was hired for the film project and now the studio is looking to cast an actor to play the lead, a near-death police officer who becomes a powerful cyborg cop haunted by his memories.

Twitch.com is reporting that Chris Pine (Unstoppable, Star Trek) is MGM's top choice to play Officer Alex J. Murphy/Robocop. This is a tad surpring choice, nce Pine is a full decade younger than Peter Weller was back in the 1987 original film.

Padilha has yet to approve the choice, so things can still change. And much can happen nce the film isn't slated for release until 2013. Stay tuned for more cyborg cop details.
