Who is YOUR Favorite Masked Villain?

I don’t know if its insecurity, or just a lly attempt to shock potential victims, but it sure seems a whole lot of horror’s villains take fondly to the thought of masking their face with some form of intimidating man-made guise.

Prior to the slasher craze that saw it’s bona fide launch in the late 1970’s, most psychopathic madmen favored brute shock and extreme (for the time) violence over oft-humorous masks. Of course the times have changed, and just about every antagonist seems to be sporting some form of awkward facial concealer.

So, I got to wondering, just who is your favorite masked menace?

I’ve compiled a list of options to choose from, but don’t expect every masked freak to make the list, as that would take a good day to assemble a selection that thorough. Instead, I’ll be treating you to some of the more ideal selections.

If you’ve got someone else in mind, don’t be bashful, speak your mind in the comments section below, as we'd love to know who your favorite masked villain is!

Michael Myers

Jason Voorhees

Chromeskull

Babyface

Leslie Vernon

Pennywise the Clown

Ghostface

Leatherface

Midnight Movie Madman

Kenny Hampson

The Miner

The Prowler

The Strangers

Ronald Reagan

Sam

I forgot how awesome Babyface's mask is. But Sam is one of my favorite characters to ever come out of horror, so he steal's my vote

Bet you can't guess mine.

Judging by your g, i'd have to take the safe guess of Jason.

Rock 'n' Ronnie for sure. Just seeing Ronald Reagan butchering hippies and spouting awful one-liners was just de-splitting. The Tripper is seriously an underrated movie.

Have to go with Jason on this one, though Michael Myers is a close second.

Mine is a tie! Michael Myers the Carpenter mask era and Ghostface of course. I also love the Strangers use of the masks. The babydoll mask is the most chilling of the three in that particular film.

The original Leatherface is number one for me, with Sam A really close second. Technically speaking, I don't think Pennywise should be on ths list of "Masked Killers", even though I love that movie (just got it at K-Mart for $5 last month

)?

he and hannibal are both debatable; ultimately, they both do indeed wear masks though, whether it be make up, or that restraint guard, it's definitely a... "facial accessory". lol

Gosh I love Sam D: but I also love Midnight Movie Madman, seriously he is such an underrated slasher. My vote is for Madman.... btw... WHERE IS THE COLLECTOR??? :OOO!!!! ...his mask makes me lulz

and not to mention the shooter mask from Nine Dead >_>
BloodyAdored Saturday 8/06/2011 at 06:34 PM | 80140
Let's see, you neglected to mention the Old Hag from Curtains, the Indian Shaman from Body Count, the wrestling mask from Evil Laugh, Marty's mask from Slaughter High, the multiple masks from Terror Train, and let's not forget the Phantom Killer from The Town that Dreaded Sundown.

Anyone else think Tim Curry would make an awesome Joker with just make up. He has such a creepy smile. I saw an episode of Criminal Minds where had like rotten teeth, and all I could think of was him being a really scary Joker. I personally think he would make Ledgers look like the old 60's TV Joker.

Romero's Bruiser is another great underrated flick I think. There's no way you'd put him up in a top end list of greatest masked villains but the movie kicks ass!

Hahaha yeah it didn't go down with too many horror fans, but I enjoyed it for what it was. Anything with a mask and blood is fine with me!

Leatherface and I agree, pennywise is debatable.

Not that i don't appreciate.

God I am torn by Decker and Chromeskull. Both need some more love in here. Nightbreed is a clasc and Dr. Decker is one of the most overlooked masked killers I think. Can't wait to see the director's cut after all these years but Chromeskull is an instant new hit. Nick Principe is the shit, he exudes attitude that most mply cannot. Without a word he is one of the most suave and devastating I've seen. Throwing that knife through the guys face and tearing it off... That's pretty damn hardcore. Chromeskull, sorry Decker.

is the best, but I had JUST grabbed a pic of Decker and then went to page 4 and lo and behold...there he was!

One of the creepiest masks of all time! Also: Alice Sweet Alice The pig masks in Saw and Motel Hell the killer from Blood and Black Lace Cupid from Valentine The Hag mask in Curtains The Devil mask in Hellbent

Jason Voorhees all the way! He just embodies & radiates a powerful inhuman awesomeness that all the others don't quite live up to! I think the character of Michael Myers always tried to achieve this kind of persona, but he still always seemed very human to me..

Hannibal Lecter is also one of my favorite villains, but I don't really associate him with the same category as these other "horror" type characters.
ubersteigen Sunday 8/14/2011 at 09:40 PM | 80635
My personal favorite will always be Michael Myers. :)
Silverpsycho Tuesday 8/16/2011 at 07:32 PM | 80796
i have 2 say scream

It wears make-up i thought not a mask Technically, IT doesn't wear make-up. IT is a shapeshifter that takes the form of a clown - the makeup is there "by default" so to speak.

Otherwise, it's a tough one. I like F13 the best, but of all the mask "stories" the one that by far creeps me out the most is Babyface.

Although Dr. Decker WOULD make a fine addition to the list. :)
Elemjay Friday 8/19/2011 at 10:00 PM | 81141
Michael.

A lot of horror films imply that the mask IS the killer's real face but its more true with Michael, aka The Shape.

He's not really Michael Myers anymore, just a blank vessel for the evil that is the Bogeyman to manifest itself.
unnatural Sunday 9/18/2011 at 11:34 PM | 82929
Have to say Pennywise the Clown
SplatteriPoika Sunday 9/25/2011 at 11:38 AM | 83242
Hrm... All of the obvious ones are used up. Going to have to go with Pyramid Head from lent Hill :)

I don't know wtf that thing is on his head... I don't want to know either. But it qualifies as a mask lol.
