Many industry pundits predicted a poor opening weekend for Rupert Wyatt’s Rise of the Planet of the Apes, due in part to a gnificant chunk of early negative (don’t get me wrong, plenty have praised the film) reviews that have been flooding the internet.
Apparently the general public doesn’t invest too much into the disdain of paid webte critics.
‘Rise’ debuted theatrically on Friday, and to the shock of some, pulled down some respectable numbers at the box office. The film earned a solid $18 million on Friday alone, which now puts the film on pace to reach the $40 million mark by weekends close.
Given an all-but guaranteed strong weekend finish, you can bet we’ll be seeing plenty more ‘Apes’ films, as the initial idea was to completely reboot the franchise and release a series of follow-ups.
James Franco, Freida Pinto, John Lithgow and Andy Serkis star; go check out the film, if you haven’t already. There must be some level of enjoyment to the film, the numbers prove that!
