Todd Farmer Fired From H3D? - Rumors Of HALLOWEEN 3D Found Footage Film

UPDATE: 9/7/2012 (Todd Farmer speaks) viewtopic.php?f=279&t=16552

Is HALLOWEEN 3D a mess or is it just me? A few days ago I posted that some news may be breaking about the long awaited details about the return of Michael Myers. Now, according to BleedingCool.com, a ton of other rumors are spreading like wild fire. What is a horror fan to believe at this point? Well lets see what has been reported and you can be the judge.

While talking about HATCHET 3 in an interview with BleedingCool director Adam Green mentioned that he was contacted about directing a new movie for a well known slasher franchise and declined. What was the film about and why did he decline? Read below to find out.

ADAM GREEN: "Now they’re taking, and I can’t say the name of it, but a very well-known slasher franchise, and when I got the call I was like, “I would love to do this!”

Then they were like, “OK, it’s going to be a found footage movie.” I was like, “Why?”

And they were like, “Because Paranormal Activity made a lot of money.”

Now after a statement like that the internet has been running ramped with rumors of what "very well-known slasher franchise" Green was asked to be apart of. Many speculated it could be the upcoming sequel to the remade FRIDAY THE 13TH movie.

Although no movement seems to be taking place on F-13: Part 2, this was the speculation. That is until writer Todd Farmer (who wrote a treatment for H3D for Dimenon Films) tweeted this below.

TODD FARMER: "Dunno what to do or think any more. I'm fired because I won't do a PG13 horror or a found footage Myers. Hollywood blows."

Farmer was then asked if there would be a right way to make a PG-13 horror film or found footage Myers. This was his answer:

"PG13 and FF have their places. My opinion would be that neither belong in remaking rated R originals."

So is Todd Farmer off of the HALLOWEEN 3D team now? It would certainty appear so according to

he tweet. All of this is mere speculation but he did put it on the web for the world to see. It would seem to me that he is off the project but who the hell knows at this point?

The bottom line is, does Hollywood and the Weinsteins want Michael Myers in a found footage style film? Would it even work in the storyline that Rob Zombie built or would this be remaking a remake? And does the 3D title still stand?

A ton of questions left unanswered especially with the October 26th, 2012 release date looming. A lot can still happen but things seem to be off to a shaky start here for Myers in 2012 to say the least. Is this one case where it is just time to hang up the mask and leave things well enough alone? I'd love to hear your thoughts.

I'm probably crazy for saying this but a found footage take on Halloween could be really interesting. I've always had a thing for the realism FF movies can boast even if more often than not the films themselves can be kind of bland. An iconic character like Michael Myers and proper use of Halloween atmosphere (something I think was Zombie's films strongest points) could really make it work.

Hell, HorrorBid did a really nice job of it themselves:

I just wish the motivation behind it was a little more creative than because Paranormal Activity made money. :/

I don't mind the franchise being whored through whatever populist horror fad out there right now. I would, though, mind a Halloween movie with a lot of lame PG-13 trick photography in place of the gore that fans line up for anyway.

I agree with Shoddy though, the found footage approach is actually a perfect approach for a Michael Myers movie. To see him lumbering out of the shadows and into the frame would send chills up anyone's spine. It's all a matter of the Weinsteins doing it right. Or if you do it PG-13 style, have an unrated veron for the grown ups.

What are you talking about Stitches? That vid was real!!! But you know, watching that does give me hope that they could pull something off . . . too bad the motivation currently appears to have nothing to do with art and all to do with money. Halloween needs to be taken away from the studios and given the indy treatment - back to its roots.

I would appreciate proper sourcing of my story if you are going to use it. I posted a link from my webte to this exact story in your previous speculative Halloween thread yesterday.

Sorry about that J, we have added that to the list. I just got the BleedingCool story sent to my mail.

As for the HorrorBid "found footage" film I have to agree with Shape, as far as I know that is legit footage. :P

Ok, first I would like to say good on you Todd Farmer for sticking to your guns and not going though with such a stupid idea by the Weinstein's. Secondly, fuck you to the Weinsteins for being so fucking stupid. PG?! Found footage?! To be it just sounds like they're trying to make it blow more than Zombie's Halloween's.

Thirdly, I hope to god they're not actually talking about the Hellraiser remake. As far as I know that hasn't started filming so it could quite posbly be an option.

Hey I love the Halloween series I have 3 myers tattoos and a $5000 myers mask collection. So when I say a found footage myers movie may work if it's done correctly I don't think I'm out of line. The legends of the slasher movies need to be seen just a little different from how they have been in the past a resenly. An FF film may be the way to go. It would be very interesting to see. But I'll tell you one thing this PG-13 s**t has to F***ing go right now. Don't disrespect the series with a damn PG-13 rating!!!!!!

NO this should not be a found footage film. I love the found footage genre but it doesn't belong in the Halloween series. There is absolutely no point to that at all. We already got the piece of shit that was Halloween Resurrection that had the amateur handi-cam footage of Myers doing his thing.

They should either conclude the Zombie Halloween films with a straight up normal slasher film OR they should go back to the old story of Laurie Strode vs. Michael Myers (Yes they should make it that Laurie survived her encounter in Resurrection) so we don't have the original saga concluding with the horrible Halloween Resurrection.

This is saddening news, we all knew the Weinsteins were trying to regain some of their money back but firing Todd Farmer to create a PG-13 found footage myers film? Count us out because we all know how Resurrection turned out.

Bloody-Disgusting has just interviewed Todd Farmer. All the speculation is revealed to be true, looks like a found footage Myers PG-13 movie may indeed happen. Plus plot points on Farner's script are revealed check it out...

I'm not going to claim to be Michael Myer's # 1 fan, or the holder of ultimate Halloween knowledge. I will say however, that Michael Myers is he only horror icon to ever terrify me. A PG-13 Myers would take the bite out... it would eliminate the chill that runs down your spine when the iconic theme muc plays. A found footage Halloween seems a little less crappy in my opinion, and I could see it being done well, but I doubt it would be (see all previous comments about the monstroty that is Halloween Resurrection.) This news is very disappointing, and if it turns out to be true, I'll be one more person who passes this addition to the franchise up.

Found footage? PG-13? What the hell hollywood.
Voorhees13 Thursday 9/08/2011 at 08:31 PM | 82345
I'm with all the people in support of the found footage (i think they could make it work, though i'd rather they didn't even try) and against the PG13. Personally, i just find myself disgusted with the molds we've created for ourselves and someone should probably try to break those molds. Not to mention the norms created by the MPAA's rating system. We're all just taking the cencorship bullshit right up the ass....haha?

A found footage film based on the halloween franchise could work. One thing to remember is that Halloween was meant to be a scary babytter killer. So my take on the film Laurie Strode is a baby tter who is unknowingly being watched by a series of babytter cams. Then the baby tter stalker can be seen in the shadows and windows...Will it work for feature film? Probably not. But a 30 minute short hell yeah.

I have lost all my faith in hollywood. What a fu$%ing Weathercock, just cause some cheap movie makes easy money is it alright then to change the style of other movies? I hate paranormal and blair witch, i hate found footage, its cheap and uneasy to watch and a lame excuse to make a cheap movie. What educated Cinematographer would like to put his name on crap like that? Leave Michael Myers in peace. Cause your not doing any fan a favor! its just a money smell. Michael Myers sells many tickets and found footage will keep the production value at lowest. There is no respect or ambition behind this. BIG FU%& THIS
