You can't just make a broad generalization about rape scenes not belonging in any movie.

Sure there are some that are mply thrown in for shock value, like in Rob Zombie's Halloween, but to some movies they are central to the story.

Think for a second about a movie like The Accused with Jodi Foster, in which the rape scene set the stage for the entire movie.

Condering that Foster went on to win a best actress Oscar and Golden Globe for her performance in that movie, do you still think she should have her head examined for agreeing to do that scene?

Granted, I'm sure Straw Dogs isn't going to be nominated for any major awards, but who's to say that the particular scene won't be just as critical to the telling of that story?

If you want to boycott every movie with a rape scene that's your prerogative, but to come in here talking about actors needing to have their heads examined, or about the scenes existing solely to get young guys hard, is ridiculous and insulting.

I dont see the average guy getting a "hard on" from watching a rape scene, nor do I think that is the intent of the film makers. Rape is a violent crime that sadly happens and happens a lot in our society. If a film maker is going to honestly portray a horrible tuation while telling a story, then they should never feel the need to censor themselves. It is disturbing and unsettling to watch, but thats the nature of the crime and if anything people might get a sense of just how horrific it is. The horror/exploitation genre is filled with all types of sordid imagery, rape just being one of them. Its called "horror" for a reason.

Rape is terrible but like others have said they are part of some films as much as torture or killing. If it serves a purpose in the film's story then it does belong regardless of the sex of the victim. Also, the main reason is because it was a crucial scene in the original. If anything you should be upset that this is another good film that was remade terribly. It looks terrible and I hope it fails but only because I'm a pretty big fan of Sam

Peckinpah's original Straw Dogs, staring Dustin Hoffman.
