Make Your Early Predictions, Which Will Find Greater Success: 'Prometheus' or 'The Thing'?

These two flicks are clearly the most anticipated horror releases in years. Two reboots/re-imaginings/remakes of two of the greatest films in history, Ridley Scott's Alien and John Carpenter’s The Thing. Which do you predict will flourish at the box office, and which, if either, do you feel stands a fair chance of taking a nosedive.

While Prometheus, the planned prequel to the almighty Alien, isn’t scheduled to hit theaters until June of next year, The Thing will overtake theaters in a matter of weeks.

Both films borrow their foundation from established greatness, and should either feature lose hold of that factor at any point, we could be in for some nauseating work. That said, I’m excited (and I'm not often pumped for remakes) for both of these pictures, and I believe that both projects contain a wealth of talent behind the cameras as well as in front of. The only question is, will that talent translate as needed?

So, for your money, if you absolutely had to bank on one of these films underperforming, which would you choose, Prometheus or The Thing?

Let us know your thoughts!

Personally I think this thread is pretty stupid. As much as I love The Thing, you can't put it up next to something like Prometheus. It's got a famous A-grade director, a much bigger budget and is essentially a prequel to Alien.

I'm not saying The Thing is going to be bad. I'm personally looking forward to it. I just think you can't compare such a film with a creature like Prometheus.

why the hell not?

two reboots/prequels to two of the greatest sci-fi-horror hybrids in existence (who both happened to showcase CREATURES. How in the world could this be a "stupid" topic for debate?

You MUST see he milarities here.... fuck I hope you do lol

Sure I see the milarities but I still don't see how something like The Thing can compete next to something like Prometheus.

Well I can see the milarities because They are both supposed to be essentially prequels to two of the greatest sci-fi horror films ever made but instead of choong one over the other, I will go see both in Theater! I hardly ever watch films in theaters anymore but I definitely will for these two!

There's a lot more going for Prometheus to make it a bigger success than The Thing.Definitely going to see both of these bad boys in the theater though. I love The Thing and I really hope this prequel does the original justice.

Hands down Prometheus...Although I myself would probably enjoy The Thing more than the other, The Alien series is just too big and has a larger fan-base.

Well with Ridley Scott behind it, then yes it does seem like the bigger film and if they both came out at the same time in theaters, it would be very interesting to see how the numbers measured up to each other. I guess I am just a bigger fan of The Thing than the Alien films.

I predict they will both fail, but prometheus will do better than The Thing
