HorrorBid's 31 Days of Horror: Autopsy

We here at HorrorBid will be recommending one specific treasure for everyday of the month. The ultimate goal is mple; encourage the masses to seek out stellar films that fit the seasonal mold. While I’m certain plenty of our faithful readers will find some of these films predictable, or at the least familiar, we still feel as though a friendly reminder can go a long way towards renewed enjoyment.

On deck for October 14th, is one of the few After Dark Horrorfest films that actually totes some serious entertainment value, Adam Gierasch’s Autopsy. The film boasts a strangely enjoyable sadistic nature, some decent gore (and great prosthetics), and a handful of noteworthy performances (Robert Patrick does a damn fine job as the twisted doc).

The gist of the film is rather elementary, and anything but original. That said, it’s fun: a pasonate madman leaps at any opportunity to kidnap accident victims. Once he’s got them in his grasp, it’s off to a supposedly abandoned hospital, where he takes what he needs from each, in order to extend the life of his love, who isn’t in the best of shape; The doc’s got good motives, he just lacks the means to aide his love in moral fashion.

There’re some laughs aboard, many of which aren’t intentional, but they ring true just the same. The film’s atmosphere is wonderful, the cast is nister and the settings and set pieces are extremely bleak; certainly resonating during this fine time of year. There’s such a cold nature to the film that avoiding goose bumps is just about inescapable, and the antagonists only aid in the vile essence of the picture; with the exception of Dr. Benway, not a ngle villain gives two shits about the innocent victims doomed to meet a bloody demise.

As I noted, this is certainly one of the stronger Horrorfest offerings, and it’s a fantastic piece to catch during the Halloween season. The fucking flick is just gruesome!
