Share Your Prediction: How Much Money Will The Thing Make at the Box Office This Weekend?

Matthijs van Heijningen Jr.'s prequel to John Carpenter's beloved film, The Thing hit theaters this weekend. While I've already shared my personal thoughts on the matter (you can check out my review right here, there are certainly plenty who will disagree and write the picture off as little more than afterthought. The question is, just how many purists haul that attitude, and how many will refuse to give the film a chance on the big screen?

These are questions that will provide an answer detectable through the film's box office take this weekend. I can attest to the fact that the theater wasn't exactly humming with life, but that may not exactly be indicative of the picture's overall performance.

So, the ultimate question of the day is: how much money do you believe The Thing will earn at the box office this weekend?

BTW, I'm predicting a $11 million opening take. Let's hope I'm wrong!

You do have to factor in the time of year, though. Even non hardcore horror fans will go out to see something creepy during October. Plus, the same issue will give it a wider release (more screens maybe). I'd guess about $18-$25 million for the opening weekend.

you're a generous woman. I'll be stunned if it does anywhere near 25 - Footloose is (sadly) killing it right now.

As long as fuckin Real Steel is bumped from number 1, I'll be happy lmao

I'll die a little inde if Footloose tops. Though I suppose almost anything is better than Rock'em Sock'em Robo... er... Real Steel.
