With ALL HALLOWS EVE right around the corner we are celebrating here on the 'Bid with a good old fashioned face off. Take all the history and everything you know about the Halloween franchise and throw it out the window for today. We are concentrating on John Carpenter's clasc original 1978 HALLOWEEN vs. Michael Dougherty's mega popular TRICK 'R TREAT film.
Both are fantastic movies and regardless of the fact that TRICK 'R TREAT didn't make it into theaters no one is denying the film is brilliant and on its way to cult status. With that being said, erase your memory for a day and imagine you just popped into the Blu-Ray tray a copy of HALLOWEEN and then a copy of TRICK 'R TREAT.
This isn't a "which do you like better" question. HALLOWEEN has been around for over 3 generations, Michael Myers is ingrained as much in our culture as baseball and apple pie. What we are asking you to do is focus on which film screams Halloween the holiday to you. Which triggers that special Halloween nerve more?
Which film conjures up the Halloween spirit more?

I know I'm going to get crap for this, but I'm going with Trick R' Treat. Within the last few years that it has been released, it has taken over the spot on "What movie to watch on Halloween night?" as it delivers the punches hard and pretty fast, unlike Halloween where it takes some time before anything really good happens (after the opening scene of course.) Now don't giet me wrong, I LOVE Halloween, but Trick R' Treat is clong in pretty fast.

Yeah man, even though I love Trick r Treat and the Halloween feel it gives there is just something about Halloween bedes the title that gives me that Halloween feeling even more. Maybe it's Nostalgia but just hearing the opening song, the Halloween theme, Lauries Theme and seeing Michael dressed up in his white mask and coveralls, plus making a display out of his dead especially ster's tombstone is just Halloween. Plus it's awesome that I can pop in part 2 and continue that feeling even if the muc is slightly different. It might take awhile for Trick r Treat to give me those same feelings but don't get me wrong, they are both fun to watch but Halloween is more daunting and ominous.

HALLOWEEN! Trick 'r Treat is very over-hyped in my opinion, much like Hatchet.

Am I the only one who disliked Trick 'r Treat? Halloween by a long-shot. The only good film with a title like that is 1986's Trick or Treat. I have yet to see the obscure slasher Trick or Treats.

I love love love love Halloween.....But I gotta say....Trick 'r Treat captures it better. I mean little Sam was made for this holiday where as Michael was just created on this holiday......

Halloween by far, although Trick 'R Treat has become a staple nce it came out a few years ago. It's an amazing movie, but nothing can touch Halloween imho.

Trick R Treat hands down, I still love the Halloween franchise but if I want to get into the Halloween spirit I watch Trick r Treat because it's a great movie that SHOULD have gotten a theatrical release, had that been so it would be much more appreciated then what it currently is. The film is filled with lore and just oozes the Halloween spirit.
On a de note and everyone will hate me for this, sort of off topic; but people say they can't get into this movie and yet they like Hatchet? I hated both Hatchet movies, I just thought they were horrible jokes of a film. Bad scripts and acting all around, but I know there are die hard fans with the Hatchet Army who still love it. Either way I wish they would just bury the hatchet with that franchise, no pun intended =P
P.S. If they do make a Hatchet 3, I will still watch it because I am a horror fan none the less. I just hope they do something better with it, DAAADDDDDYYYYY just sounds so stupid to me... *cough* cheap rip off of Jason and his mother in the swamp with no hockey mask (insert mongoloid hatchet and father) *cough* sorry everyone I just have no love for Hatchet.

That's a mple answer for me.
No film before or nce has ignited my Halloween spirit more than Trick 'r Treat.
In my perfect world, every town across the country would look like "Warren Valley, Ohio" on Halloween.

As much as I love, love, LOVE Halloween, I have to say I get a much more Halloween vibe or feel from Trick 'r Treat. Halloween is a great movie, but it doesn't always throw a feel of the season. There are bits and pieces and times that do, but Trick 'r Treat is just nonstop Halloween.
Kind of have to look at it like this, would Michael Myers and the Halloween movie work without being set on Halloween? The answer is, yes. I would still be a great movie even if it were call The Babytter Murders and set on any given date. Would Trick 'r Treat work without being set on Halloween? Big ole, nope there.

I don't see what's so good about Trick r Treat.... I bought the blu ray thinking it was going to be good cuz of all the talk. Am I misng something here?? The answer to the question for the post is Trick r Treat, but I do like Halloween way better. I can actually say I'd never t through Trick r Treat again, unless someone can fill me in on what's "good" about it.

My vote goes to Trick 'R Treat. It just captures the vibe of the holiday so well, and looks fantastic. It's like Hocus Pocus for grown-ups.
Halloween is great, don't get me wrong, I love it and watch it every year. But it ealy could have happened on any other night of the year. It probably wouldn't have been as effective if it did, but it could have.

Halloween seems like a de-plot for Micheal Myers, with his obseson with masks Halloween was an excuse for him to hide himself away in a mask and kill. Trick r Treat's whole plot is based upon Halloween, it tells us what Halloween is all about and that creep-show element just ups the anti. I have watched Trick R Treat more times than Halloween, Halloween is good but no way is it the best Halloween film

Trick 'r Treat has more of a Halloween feel but for me, Halloween isn't Halloween without watching Halloween. I'll be watching both along with other Halloween staples, Halloween II, Night of the Living Dead, and Night of the Demons.
