Paranormal Activity 3 Breaks Records & Sets New October Opening Record

If you think this will be the last time you see a Paranormal Activity movie, think again! Good or bad, the films are proven juggernauts and who can blame the studios for pumping them out. You have to look at it from their eyes. If someone offered you a bag of millions of dollars would you turn it away? I think the answer would be the same resounding yes no matter who you are.

According to BoxOfficeMojo.com, PA 3 cashed in an estimated $54 million from 3,321 theaters domestically, an average of $16,266 per theater. On an estimated shoestring $5 million dollar budget it doesn't take a mathematician to figure out the profit margins for this film are above and beyond what even the studios expected, and they expected a lot.

The third installment also took in a nice chunk of change overseas pulling in an extra $26 million making the total for the film a staggering $80 million in the first weekend. Not bad and proof that, not only are "found footage" films not dead, but you can rest assured that we will be seeing Paranormal Activity 4 and probably Paranormal Activity 10 in the coming years.

When it's all said and done the film shattered the box office record for highest grosng film in the month of October and will go down in the history books as one of horrors strongest franchises. Get those handi cams ready filmmakers because this juggernaut is not going to die anytime soon.

Is this opening weekend reciepts? Good. Maybe horror isn't dying after all. Maybe everyone's just tired of the remakes and lame sequels. I know this is a sequel, but Paranormal Activity is still fresh enough, and damned scary enough to attract an audience I guess.
