HorrorBid's 31 Days of Horror: The Exorcist

We here at HorrorBid will be recommending one specific treasure for everyday of the month. The ultimate goal is mple; encourage the masses to seek out stellar films that fit the seasonal mold. While I’m certain plenty of our faithful readers will find some of these films predictable, or at the least familiar, we still feel as though a friendly reminder can go a long way towards renewed enjoyment.

On deck for October 26th, is a film that left moviegoers phycally ill upon initial release, William Friedkin’s translation of William Peter Blatty’s shocking story, The Exorcist. If ever there was a film to cause tidal waves of controversy amongst the religious, it was certainly this dark, depresng tale that is still widely condered one of the greatest horror films of all time.

The gist: Innocent youth Regan MacNeil (Linda Blair) is possessed by a nister force that drives her far beyond the brink of madness. A pair of priests are recruited to try and expel the evil from within Regan, but when dealing with evil, expect the worse, which is just about what you’ll find in this haunting picture.

While the story begins at a turtles pace, the ultimate payoff proves well worth the wait. The film’s finale is creepy on a level few films can rival, and the picture’s final act is so insanely abhorrent that it’s certain to cling to the inner cranium for ages to follow. There are some extremely brutal

(and quite obscene might I add) acts to unfold, and a haunting reveal as the film unwinds that always seems to summon a “damn!” from this particular voice box.

While countless films have aimed to duplicate the success of The Exorcist, none have succeeded, and most have been brushed ade; labeled poor mimicry. Make no mistake, there is no film quite like the Exorcist, and if you’re looking to rediscover the sensation of fear, I’ve got to recommend turning this flick on late at night, while the family rests, the lights dim, and the home unleashes those familiar yet eerie groans all homes harbor. Trust me, it’ll scare the shit out of you.http://youtu.be/YDGw1MTEe9k
