Freddy's BACK! *NEWS*

"Nightmare" to haunt big screen again!

Freddy's back, Again! Just found this on Yahoo's front page.

New Line is in talks with horror production company Platinum Dunes to re-launch the "Nightmare on Elm Street" movie series, the franchise that helped establish the studio.

The first "Nightmare" movie was made by Wes Craven and released in 1984. The runaway success of the film spawned a slew of sequels and created one of the most popular villains in screen history, Freddy Krueger, played by Robert Englund.

The film centered on Krueger, a serial child killer murdered by angry parents, who returns with a burned face and a razor glove to terrorize teens in their dreams.

A screenwriter will be hired once the Writers Guild of America strike ends. The producers -- Michael Bay, Brad Fuller and Andrew Form -- are hoping to focus part of the new movie on Krueger's backstory.

Platinum Dunes is prepping another re-launch, "Friday the 13th," which will be directed by Marcus Nispel for New Line, for whom it remade "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" and its sequel.

The company is remaking "Near Dark" for Rogue and "The Birds" for Universal. It is also prepping a non-remake project, an untitled David Goyer thriller.

That's all fine.... as long as Robert Englund plays Krueger

He has too, there is no one else that could even touch that part.

I know... and if someone else even tries, I will lose all interest. Robert Englund IS Freddy Krueger.

Without a doubt, hopefully they are not thinking of replacing him. Does anyone have the scoop on this?

All I know is... if it's Robert Englund playing a creepy man in your dreams, wearing a dirty red and green sweater, with a fedora and bladed glove... I'll be happy.

8-)

I also wish that this damn Writers Strike would end already so that they could get the ball rolling!

Platinum Dunes partners Michael Bay, Brad Fuller and Andrew Form have been set by New Line to re-launch Freddy Krueger, the iconic psycho who haunts the subconscious dreams of teenagers and kills them in their sleep, reports Variety.

Both franchises will be given a complete overhaul, something that Platinum Dunes provided in the Nispel-directed The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. New Line won’t hire a writer on “Nightmare” until the writers strike ends.

It’s pretty sad that Platinum Dunes has now acquired the rights to remake all the iconic horror movies. (Except for ‘Halloween.’)

Leatherface, Jason, and now Freddy Krueger are now property of Michael Bay.

This was taken from my reliable movie te I frequent.

They obviously hate Platinum Dunes and I posted this up in HorrorBid's Myspace Blog earlier today and a couple people seem to have milar feelings about Dunes.

I don't know how I feel about Platinum Dunes yet... but I do know about remakes, and I just plain don't like em! Especially when the series being remade still has a storyline to work off of (which I believe A Nightmare On Elm Street does... mply for the fact that Freddy can do anything, be anywhere, and will never go away).

I'm personally torn on remakes.

I know they are BIG touchy subjects and I normally avoid talking about them but it seems this issue is just being forced to the surface because so many are happening.

The ways I see it, I'm going to watch these re-makes with the hope that they are great movies.

I know that I'm just fueling the fire by giving the studios my money but when they stamp the name of a Horror Icon on a film I just can't rest (and they know that).

However, if the movies suck then that makes me appreciate the original all that more.

I just hate knowing that the studios are raping great original ideas to just mply make money . . . in a sense they are making a mockery of the Horror Genre (to some people).

On the flip de, I also see how if all the new ideas suck then it's best to stick to your guns and re-make something that works.

It's a safe way to ensure income, but just because I understand it doesn't mean I have to like it.

I hope for the best for the Nightmare and Friday remakes but in the end, if they do suck, we'll always have the originals.

That's all that's keeping me from pulling my hair out. I think the Horror genre is moving in a pretty good direction (condering the remakes) with these newer films like Hatchet, which are reminiscent of the oldies but have their own story. That is what talented filmmakers create in my opinion... a new idea (especially in a time where they are hard to come by). I will see the remakes as well though... so there is no doubt that we are the motivation for them.

More news from moviehole.net:

The bad news? They’re still planning to reboot the “Elm Street” series. The good news? We mightn’t be getting a new Freddy after all. We’ve heard today that Robert Englund will be approached about repring his role as Fred Krueger in the “Nightmare on Elm Street” remake. And so they bloody well should.

If Englund is involved I'll feel much better about this.

That's good news. And Englund isn't likely to turn it down... so I'm feeling good about it. If they can't get him though, they ought to forget it... end of movie.

I not sure how I feel about this or The Birds being remade.

hopefully its good

It can be as good as it wants... it'll NEVER beat Hitchcock's. None of his movies should be touched.

Wait... did you mean the birds or ANOES?

Either way... they shouldn't be touched

If they were to replace Englund what actor would have the best chance or doing it justice (not as good as Robert but would be next in line . . . a Freddy understudy so to speak)???

He's not exactly best for the part... but I'd personally like to see James Earl Jones give it a go. Don't lie... you want to see that too.

I am sure they will ruin it, and every other clasc, in the same way they ruined Halloween. I am so ck of Hollywood not being able to come up with any original ideas.

I personally think Wilford Brimley would make a nice freddy, unfortunately, he is dead, but still likes to talk about Liberty Medical.

Actually, it's a supringly common misconception that he is dead... when in fact, he is alive and well somewhere in Utah. He's recently been endorng U.S. Senator John McCain for the 2008 election. Another weird "Brimley fact" is that he supports, and often attends cockfights.Don't know why people think he croaked. Lucky for us... he can still be Freddy!!! Go Wilford!

I'm not making any "official" predictions until I get the facts on this one. To many questions left to be answered, plus... I've been wrong before.

NO ENGLUND - From
href="http://www.themovieblog.com">http://www.themovieblog.com

When word came out last week the Michael Bay’s company was planning on remaking the clasc horror film “A Nightmare On Elm Street” there was come cautious optimism going around because word was that Robert Englund may come back to reprise his role as Freddy Krueger for the project.

However, it seems those rumors have been quickly shot down according to ShockTillYouDrop:A number of industry sources recently phoned in to shed some light on the early discusons going on behind-the-scenes regarding “Nightmare”…and none of them include Englund starring as Krueger. The franchise facelift includes discovering a new actor to polish up the finger knives and play the iconographic dream role Englund has practically made his second skin nce ‘84.Disheartening news for the fans, maybe, but rumor has it Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes is taking “Nightmare” back to square one…as in fresh start, hitting the reset button, making it their own (think “Texas Chainsaw Massacre” ‘03 and Friday the 13th ‘09). Because of this decion, they’d like to find another actor to carry the new Krueger into future films.

Well... one of those "unanswered questions" seems to have just been answered. Now... for my official prediction: DAMN! DAMN! DAMN! I HATE FREAKING REMAKES!!! No Englund?? What the hell are they thinking? Screw Michael Bay, screw whoever thought up this remake, and screw everyone who can't come up with their own ideas! THIS FILM IS GOING TO SUCK...
