Will FRIDAY THE 13TH: PART 2 Ever Happen? - Jason's Return to Crystal Lake

You either feel strongly one way or the other about whether a follow up movie to the successful 2009 remake should be made. Fans will remember that PART 2 in the "new" Jason saga was supposed to take place in 2010 on Friday, August 13th. And after nearly two years that date has nce come and gone and the question remains. Are we any closer to seeing Jason Voorhee's on the big screen again?

When the remake debuted at the box office and brought in a whopping $100 million dollars it was immediate, plans for a sequel were in the works. So far were they in the works that Platinum Dunes (the production company behind the new series) already announced they had a script being worked on and it was nearly complete.

We even learned that in the second installment we would see Jason Voorhee's in a new element that we'd never seen before. Jason in snow. It had us excited to see where the film would take us. 3D rumors were running wild and it seemed like it would be only a matter of time before camp Crystal Lake would be in our future.

Shooting was to begin in late 2009 but as the year came to an end no green light was ever given. Producer Brad Fuller updated fans with a statement saying, “Still hoping for some good news that will take us back to Crystal Lake." But all remained quite. Nearly a full year later we are still awaiting to here word on whether or not the project will take place.

Our friends at STYD even caught up with Brad Fuller to talk about the project and the producer had this to say about the sequel. "There's just no movement on it right now. Paramount and New Line are mply evaluating if they're going to make it and that's what's happening." He also revealed that Platinum Dunes was taking baby steps away from the horror genre with plans for a Monster Squad remake and an action film in the works. However recent rumblings about Platinum Dunes wanting to get involved with Deminon Films to take a stab at a Halloween 3 remake muddle the issue even further.

With money to be made one would think a revit including Jason back on the big screen would happen. But it certainty doesn't sound like a given. Platinum Dunes is trying to broaden their company by stepping away from the horror genre. This however doesn't mean the project won't happen. A new production company would likely step in and acquire the rights for the film, of course for the right price.

It's likely we haven't seen the last of Jason Voorhee's running around the woods, murdering camp counselors and terrorizing Crystal Lake. But as time passes the shadows of doubt start to creep in making us wonder if we truly has seen the last of Jason on the big screen. Time will tell.

Maybe it's a good move to keep the fans waiting. I think the studios don't wanna release the sequel too fast after the previous one. Look at Halloween II, it came too fast, and people didn't like it very much...if the anticipation is big enough, the fans will come running to theatres when Friday the 13th, part 2 will find it's release. Either way..Jason will be back, sure enough..he's like Michael Jackson or Madonna...people will come or are curious enough to see what will happen next. Big plus is that Jason Voorhees never ages..Jackson and Madonna do..so I think the Voorhees storyline can go on for as long as the fans are interested..Thanx to webtes like Horrorbid, the characters like Jason, Freddy, Myers and Chucky ( and all other great icons) will never be gone. " Evil never dies...it just rests for a while"

Im hoping as I have been that theres some movement on the Friday the 13th sequel but at this point im not getting my hopes up.Hopefully every film that Platinum Dunes comes out with thats not horror related will fail and then they'll have no choice but to release sequels to Friday the 13th and A Nightmare on Elm Street to recoop there losses. So thats the answer to the fans of Jason and Freddy just don't watch any other movies released by Platinum Dunes and then will see the horror icons back on the big screen in no time.

bringing out H2 too fast had nothing to do with it

the movie was just plain awful and Zombie wrote a shitty story after saying for 2 years he would never do another one

there has to be something else going on with this because nce when does a movie do 100 million and NOT get a sequel going on

perhaps after all these years paramount is still embarrassed by the series?

Another reason why it is so odd a sequel has not been announced yet is that the remake was a giant success. It made over 90 million dollars on a budget of 19 million dollars. I don't mind them taking a break like some have mentioned but it has been over 3 years nce the remake was released. Usually a 2 year break in between sequels is good enough.
