News On MANIAC COP Remake & THE MUMMY Reboot - Plus Trailer For New DRACULA!

1988 saw the release of MANIAC COP, a film that was totally original and was directed by William Lustig and it starred Bruce Campbell and Tom Atkins. It truly is a brilliant flick. The idea of no one is safe in New York City from a crazy serial killer dressed up like a police officer is great. It is known that a remake of MANIAC COP is in our near future and there was a time when William Lustig himself was rumored to return to direct but it seems that isn't the case at this point. Regardless, the film looks to be picking up some momentum as new word has come in pertaining to the subject at hand.

According to ScreenDaily, a script has been written for the new MANIAC COP film by Ed Brubaker, who worked on CAPTAIN AMERICA. The project has been picked up by the production company Wild Bunch:

“The production is spearheaded by Danish filmmaker Nicolas Winding Refn, who is producing alongside William Lustig, director of the original, and Wild Bunch. The director will be announced in Cannes.”

It's nice to know that Lustig is on board as a producer. It should be exciting to see the new MANIAC COP when it is finished.

In other news THE MUMMY reboot, which has been said to have more of a Horror flavor to it, has once again ran into problems. Len Wiseman was originally lined up to steer the ship as director but he parted ways with the project due to scheduling conflicts. Then Andy Muschietti (director of MAMA) stepped up to the plate to take it to another level.

It seems that THE MUMMY reboot cannot catch a break as Muschietti has stepped out of the director's chair and creative differences are to blame. The Wrap reports that he “wanted to deliver a darker take rather than the four-quadrant, more family-friendly action-adventure blockbuster that Universal now has in mind.”

Scheduled to be released on April 22nd 2016, THE MUMMY's future is unclear. No word yet if Universal will find a replacement for Muschietti.
