A SHOCKER Remake? INDEPENDENCE DAY Sequel News - SHARKNADO Week Announced!

The 1989 Horror film SHOCKER was written and directed by Wes Craven. It stars Michael Murphy, Peter Berg and Mitch Pileggi as the serial killer Horace Pinker. Both Wes Craven and Universal had been hoping for the movie to mark the start of a franchise. However, as we all know that was not the case and a sequel was never made.

In the past Wes Craven has made mention that he has interest in trying to do the SHOCKER film again as he felt that the film fell short of it's potential.

These days Peter Berg has had some success as a director, more specifically his latest flick LONE SURVIVOR which has done really well. Recently Berg spoke with Arrow In The Head about SHOCKER.

During the interview Berg says that he appreciated the film but that it suffered from "lousy" special effects. Then the idea of a remake was brought up:

"Before I could ask him my next question, which was “Would you be interested in a remake” he beat me to the punch and said that “I’d love to remake it”. So I said “You’d direct it?” he said “No, Wes would direct it, I’d star in it”.

What do you think of the idea for a SHOCKER remake? Anything is possible.

As most of you know, the sequel to INDEPENDENCE DAY has been in the works for quite a while now. With production still underway, some new information has risen to the surface.

Fox has hired Carter Blanchard to come in to write a new draft for the sequel. With Will Smith making it known that he will not be returning to INDEPENDENCE DAY this could be the reasoning behind the choice for a rewrite.

Director Roland Emmerich had anticipated the possibility of a sequel without Smith's involvement so two different ideas were floating around. One of them involved the return of Will Smith, the other idea had the story moving along without the returning star. This is where Carter comes in to pen the new way.

Carter is currently working on Fox's upcoming Mark Millar film KINDERGARTEN HEROES so they must really enjoy what he brings to the table to bring him in on such a huge project.

The sequel to INDEPENDENCE DAY is due out on July 1, 2016.
