Most Disturbing Moment in a Horror Movie?

Whats some of the most disturbing moments you have seen in a movie?

Here are a few of mine!

"The Exorcist"--There are a few scenes that were pretty bad, but for me, when Regan was raping herself with that crucifix ( ) and the rapid-fire demon face in Father Karras' dream.

"lence of the Lambs"--When buffalo bill is dancing in front of the mirror...naked....i just get the shivers.

You hit the nail on the head.

The crucifix scene is without a doubt the most disturbing thing I've ever seen in my life, and I'm not even a religious person.

That scene haunts me to this day.

It will just pop into my head every once in a while for absolutely no reason.

When she turns her head to her mother and says in that HORRIBLE voice, "Do you now what she did? Your cunting daughter?", a chill goes down my spine.

I'm thinking of undergoing hypnos to get that damn movie entirely out of my head.

heres a few:

-the rape scene in IRREVERBLE -the face smash scene in IRREVERBLE -most brutal scenes in CANNIBAL HOLOCAUST but the end takes it -the bath revenge scene in I SPIT ON YOUR GRAVE -the home invaon in HENRY

the scenes from the Dawn of the dead remake with vivian (the little girl) as a zombie and the group finding the newborn already as a zombie <~~~~~~Pregnant women should not watch zombie movies where the kids become zombies. Made that mistake when I was having my son in 2004...it really freaked me out probably until he was like two...lol :)

YUP! Agree with you on the rape scene in Irreverble; it was pretty brutal.
lollirot Monday 2/23/2009 at 07:21 PM | 37140
I fully agree about the Exorcist. The entire film.

Also aree about Cannibal Holocaust. The turtle scene (Those who have seen it know what I'm talking about) was just disgusting.

The ending of Invaon of the Body Snatchers with Donald Sutherland was eerie too.

The truck pull scene in The Hitcher, a few scenes in Se7en, a few from Last House On The Left, several from The Omen, and the hobbling scene in Misery... all pretty disturbing.
Myers31TKD Monday 2/23/2009 at 07:55 PM | 37141
Probably a Japanese movie Guds of beauty (Bijo no harawata) when a raped girl turns into a giant looking penis with teeth and than she kills all the bad guys with her giant penis.

Or Nekromantik when husband brings a corpse to his wife so she can have sex with it. And she puts a wooden stick where the penis of the corpse is and than she rapes the corpse.

I gotta say that in The Hills Have Eyes (2006) I was really disturbed by when the father was burned on the cross.

That to me just hit a nerve...it probably has a lot to do with my long my father at a younger age and just watching that happen really got to me.

It's so weird that I can watch all of Hostel and Saw and not be uneasy but in Urban Legends: Final Cut when the guy grabds the chick trying to escape by the incion on her hip just really made em squirm.

Also, Turistas made me quite uneasy.

One of my disturbed moments is the Birthday Party Scene where the alien walks across in the movie, "gns" .. that really spooks me.
Capnvlad Sunday 3/08/2009 at 05:50 PM | 39021
Oh, many of them....

I can't remember all, but are a few I can't forget, like Regan (The Exorcist) turning his head back... Ih, that creeps me....

The massacre scene on BrainDead, when Lionel gets the lawn mower and use it as a weapon. Disgusting and disturbing...

Or the last scene on Diary of the Dead, when the zombie gets her head exploded by a shotgun....

Leatherface killing the guy on the table while his girlfriend were under it....

1.The Ruins..enough said after the first 20 mins into it 2.A few scenes from The Exorcist 3.John Carpenters The Thing..saw this one when I was younger, don't remember much but I know it really creeped me out. 4.lence of the Lambs...when Lector escapes and murders those two cops. 5.Last House On The Left remake.

The rape scene. There's so many more, but nothing else is coming to mind at the moment.
Deathwalk Monday 3/16/2009 at 05:34 PM | 39899
In the texas chainsaw massacre remake, when the blonde guy was being dragged down the stairs and you see his fingernails rip off into the wall. I dont know what it is but fingernails really bother me. Like in land of the dead when the zombies scraps the de of the bus.
krueger4653 Wednesday 3/18/2009 at 02:13 AM | 39984
Gotta agree with an earlier post that though I've only seen it once years and years ago, the home invaon in "Henry", specifically when Otis waves hello to the camcorder ung the murdered wife's hand, is an image I've never been able to shake.

Slaughter High -- When the're screwin in the bed rigged up to batterys and estella yells out "Im Cuming" and then Marty throughs the switch to them... That was Disturbing, BUT I aplod that one!

The end of Takashi Miike's Cut is probably the most brutal thing i have seen as of recently. Especially when she is sawing off his feet with the cable. I think the noises have a lot to do with that. The set up for it was pretty brutal too, Him actually loving her and her assuming that he is just a pervert ung her. Then to follow it up with the "oh it was only a dream...wait no it wasn't" thing. I dont usually find myself cringing during movies but something about ankles just kills me.
Mr. Tomato Tuesday 3/31/2009 at 04:10 PM | 41412
The octopus scene in Oldboy, I don't know what it is about that scene but its the only part that really disturbed me in that movie

Just watched Irreverble. The rape scene, and the face smash scene (along with a bunch of man sex) were extremely, extremely disturbing. Especially once you find out the end... er... I mean the beginning. ;)
KeeterZ Friday 4/10/2009 at 05:39 AM | 42306
In the original TCM when Leatherface clubs Kirk's head & he has a convulon on the wooden panel-that raw sound-most brutal of killings I've seen-then slams the lver door shut & you hear that eerie tone when Pam calls him. In comparion-the yuppie head slicing scene in TCM2 was naff! What the hell was Tobe Hooper thinking?

Okay, one of you named The Thing--for me it was the part in the movie where Doc uses the paddles on the guy(I think it was Niles) chest and it caves in, and there's teeth there and they CHOMP off Doc's arms.

I was like 14 when I saw that and it was insane...

Also, the end of Se7en is disturbing. And the end of The Mist.

I believe that Hostel 2 is the most disturbed film that I ever seen. At end of the movie, they had a woman with bolt cutter and man tied to a chair. She cut his genital off and fed them to dog. I don't like it a bit.

Gotta say the dinner party in Dead Alive/Braindead, with the mother falling apart and what have you ... that was nasty. Other then then that Exorcist 1 the whole flick ... I have a thing about kids in Horror flix, they always creep me out

I can take all the blood gore and carnage you want to give me, but when a little kid is in a horror, flick they always seem to creep me the hell out !!!

I agree with Pretty much everything from Cannibal Holocaust. The punishment rape with a rock. The way they treat the pig and the jungle people in general. The ck Abortion of the lady who standing up a baby pops out and they cut it out and bury it right away. And yea the end was brutal.I havn't seen this but i've read about it and can say it's up there with the most disturbing movies ever.

Salo- 120 of Sodom. This film sounds fucking disgusting but i here the book is 100 times worse.

Bad Lieutenant got to me a little bit.

John Waters has some of the grossest movie's of all times.

I can't rememer what movie my most disturbing movie moment came from, if you recognise what I'm talking about please tell me. I don't know when it was made or who was is in it, all I remember is one scene: a person gets their lower jaw slowly ripped off. I still don't know why this tramatized me, I can usually take most things pretty well; but the visual of that jaw coming off made me want to cry or toss my cookies.

AU's Mordum..the child corpse rape ReGOREitated Sacrifce, most of the film is fucked up beyond belief. Snuff 102...the beating and stomping death of a pregnant woman. Martyrs...most scenes in it.

Way out front must be 'Guinea pig', the most disturbing film of all time. Dismembering a woman slowly.......

I have to second the sentiment about Martyrs. That movie got so deep inde my head I was depressed for the remainder of the day after seeing it.

I think the scene Faustus described is posbly from Mirrors. I know that particular scene where the girl slowly rips her jaw off just had me staring in sheer awe for a while.

I find nothing disturbing in any horror movie when it comes to gore or ck sadistic shit but what was always disturbing to me was two scenes from pet sematary. One when gage gets run over in front of his parents and two at Gages funeral when the father and father in law are shoving each other and knock the casket over and you see little gages body inde. Being a father this is ore disturbing to me than seeing someone get eaten alive or tortured or anything you can think of.

Also aree about Cannibal Holocaust. The turtle scene (Those who have seen it know what I'm talking about) was just disgusting.

Cannibal Holocaust is pretty good except the animal slaughter stuff is just disgusting. Really. I don't get bothered by stuff like that but I had to skip through it.

And for the scariest moment, I'd have to say I still go crazy when Michael Myers gets up in the original. It's so good.

Another one that is good but not exactly horror is the ending scene in 8mm with Machine. That record player going during that tense scene scares the shit out of me. The first time I saw that I couldn't stop watching.
krubber Friday 10/15/2010 at 08:28 PM | 67034
I disagree-Cannibal Holocaust is one of my favorites-The most disturbing for me is when Ellen Page castrates the pervert in Hard Candy-also In Marathon Man when the Nazi dentist tries to get info from Dustin Hoffman by drilling his teeth and asking "is it safe?"qrhqb4.jpg

Even though I didnt go crazy over the movie, the one that comes to mind is when Liv Tyler was stabbed in the Strangers.

Just something unsettling about the way it was done.

Update to a post I made earlier sometime way back when.

I was one of the ones that felt that the home invaon scene of Henry:Portrait of a Serial Killer where Otis waves the dead woman's hand at the video camera being used by Henry was tremendously unsettling.

Coincidentally, my wife and I got to meet Tom Towles a few weeks ago at Spooky Empire and he was very flattered by our take on the scene.

And as it turns out, he lives in the same suburb as my wife and I.

Weird right?

Small world.

Here are some of my top moments (sorry for any repeats) -What happened to the first crew in Event Horizon -Living vivisection in EH and Robocop 2 (this is one of those things that'll automatically get my skin crawling) -Pazuzu flashes in Exorcist

-Gang rape in Havoc (not a horror film I know but pretty disturbing nontheless) -Last House on the Left

-Henry (I'd forgotten about this one until re-reading the forums) -Cannibal Holocaust (this one continues to haunt me) -the baby toss in Feast 2 (as a father of an 8 month old little girl this scene REALLY bothers me perhaps more than just about any other) -Hills Have Eyes rapes (what the hell is it with all these new horror films having the female leads get molested by the mutants or whatever, is that what it takes to 'shock' people anymore?) -grand finale of Requiem For a Dream (after watching this I almost want to go so far as to swear off coffee or even aspirin) -any movie where a soon-to-be victim loses their fingernails in attempted escape -used to be that a quick flash of something horrible (the remake of 13 Ghosts once upon a time when I was a kid comes to mind) would freak me out -when I was a kid the Monsters eyes in Frankenstein Unbound freaked me out, as did him ripping open that woman's chest like it was wrapping paper <yeah now not so much, now i see this for the POS it actually was>
Shadow Jerusalem Sunday 1/02/2011 at 10:31 PM | 69065
There were a lot of moments that I found disturbing in horror movies that i have seen over the years so it is hard to judge now what was the most disturbing one ever. Just about any scene from the Exorcist once the demon was fully manifested and showed in the face of Ragan But one of the ngle most disturbing moments was in the original A Nightmare on Elm Street during Tina's death scene where they show the audience the first cuts into her body by invible blades. Now that was brutal! And it was a fantastic piece of effects work. And it continued with Tina being dragged up the walls and across the ceiling.

wow, great topic ! I'll bite.

the dog bowl scene in " Odishon " ( Audition ), anyone whose seen it will know what I mean.

that scene in Fulcis' " Zombi " where that chick gets the wood splinter in the eye. OUCH !

I too have to mention " Irreverble " for the same scenes mentioned earlier.

every ngle second of " Slaughtered Vomit Dolls ", mply because I was told the movie was awesome and in fact it turned out to be the biggest piece of shit I've ever sat through. I kept hanging in there waiting for the awesome and yeah, it never happened. that movie BLOWS.

For some reason, there's a scene in " August Underground : Mordum " where they break into this house. ( total Henry ripoff IMHO ). There's this sequence in there with a dead child lying in a bathtub, and the chick Crusty ( whose character name I forget right now ) leans over the body and says in this really creepy ng ngy voice " You don't have to grow up now ". Something about that line just creeps me out every damn time, makes my skin crawl.

All of " Aftermath ". One of those I'm repulsed yet cant turn away type films.

" Guinea Pig : The Devils Experiment ". I know its fake but the effects are just WAYYY too good.

And finally, I cant just choose one scene from it because its all so twisted, so I have to end my post by mentioning a movie called " Inde ".

If you've seen it, you'll know. If you haven't. Check it out, its a great flick but very unsettling and sometimes hard to watch.

THE WOMAN IN BLACK- When that cats lying in bed, wakes up and hears the ghostly child, swiftly follwed by that evil bitch floating over his bed and screaming in his face. Fuck that, man. That still gives me the fear!

Dr Phibes Wednesday 4/13/2011 at 07:14 PM | 74440
I gauge horror movies by how long it stays with me after i watch it.

One of the most distrubing scenes I've seen would be the torture scene in 'The Butcher' when the tormentors give the husband the option of saving him and his wife.

The husband just has to endure ten minutes of whatever they dish out.

He agrees and they begin.

The entire movie was shot with handhelds, and I'll admit it- that always turns me off.

But in that scene, I was completly engrossed, horrified, and couldn't tear my eyes away.

That rape scene, with the mask and the screaming, is the one scene I can't seem to let go.

I think of disturbing scenes and I think of that mask and that moment.

*spoiler* And because of how intense the scene is, when the husband opts out of their deal to save himself, I couldn't help but feel completly infuriated.

Not only does he describe, in detail, how they should kill her, but he books it as far away as he can when they 'let him go'.

It raises that question: what would you do/who would you sell out to save yourself?

I think people expect the happy ending where the 'hero' goes back and saves his wife/lady friend, and don't like to think about the alternative.

This movie definatly explored the other alternative.

It usually takes a lot to skeeve me out in a horror movie or any explotation moive, but for some reason the scene in Cabin Fever where the chick is shaving her legs and skin is coming off just disturbs me.

LOL

I am so glad someone mentioned that! I can't watch it again, just... no.

Also, The Thing (82): The dogs! I love this movie, it was one of the first things that REALLY scared me, but the thing with the dogs... ugh. Can't take it.

Not a horror movie, but an episode of Bones last season or so, a body is pulled out of a holding tank of cooking oil, stays solid for about two seconds and then sort of splats in a gooey mess on the ground. That actually made me a little ill.

I would have to say A Tale Of Two sters when the girl is in bed and that woman like thing climbs up on the bed with her. Not sure why, it just messes my head up. And the short film 'Whistle And I'll Come To You' when the bedsheets twist and form a human like shape.

The most disturbing scene in a movie to me was in hostel, and hostel part 2. HOSTEL: when paxton cuts off the girls eye and the pus pours out in rivers!HOSTEL PART 2: when the girl takes a saw blade to the face! - AYDAN

- When Le Femme cuts out the baby in 'INDE'
AgnesItsMeBilly Wednesday 7/13/2011 at 11:56 AM | 78539
oh my fuck. One instance comes to mind immediately... The scene in Murder Set Pieces where the baby who is covered in blood walks up to his dead mother and hugs her and cries... Being a woman my maternal instincts just went OFF. So disturbing.

The Human Centipede ...Pretty much the whole thing...

Splinter That monster thing killing the people its infected with the snapping of bones in today not normal ways.

Gag Nothing like a wooden stake up the ass ._.

For me most disturbing movies are SAW and Wrong Turn.
andrew15 Wednesday 8/03/2011 at 05:03 AM | 79852
Just to name a Few

Creep - When the creature was "Preparing for surgery" in the underground tunnel. When he pantomimes washing his hands and puts on the old torn bloody rubber gloves. Never has unclenliness been soo hair raing.

The Gates of Hell - The scene where the chick throws up her intestines.

Last house on the Left - Rape Scene

Red Room - The whole thing.

I keep thinking of gross scenes instead of real deep down disturbing scenes.
DeadMou$e5 Wednesday 8/03/2011 at 04:55 PM | 79873
lol! There are lot of horrible scary moments, which make me feel fear and create apprehenon in my mind are always disturbing moments. But i too want to entertain myself with those disturbing moment by watch scary flick.
jonespaker Thursday 8/18/2011 at 04:17 AM | 80943
The second half of Martyrs. That shit actually gave me nightmares.

The rape scene in I spit on your grave. I have a bit of an issue with rape scenes, they really get to me. Haven't managed to find the guts to see Irriverble because of it.

The "dog scene" in The Thing.
Elemjay Friday 8/19/2011 at 08:50 PM | 81135
Definitely the latter half of most of The Exorcist... Will add a few others:

1. The Bloodsucking Freaks - The head drill scene. Really? Going to spend a whole 45 seconds drilling a hole into a hot blond girl's head, and then blow "brain bubbles" with a straw?

2. The Dentist - Complete obliteration of teeth via drill

3. The Item (total B movie) - A creature, which I could only describe as a "penis-clitasaurus" gives meaningful inghts on life (therapy?) while an aan girl laughs her ass off.

That was just more of a total WTF moment.

4. The Human Centipede - The whole "Feed her! Feed her!" scene. Made me throw up in my own mouth a little.
Jonny Sicko Thursday 8/25/2011 at 08:06 PM | 81548
Several scenes from the Men Behind The Sun Quadrilogy. Those movies are probably some of the most disturbing films I've seen. Especially because they are based on a true story. The jagged rock castration from Cannibal Holocaust also was pretty disturbing, alond with a few

necrophilia scenes from Beyond The Darkness an Nekromantik.

automaton transfuon- a zombie rips a fetus out of a pregnant women stomach and ate it.

pet semetery- gage's laughter and voice, gives me goosebumps just mentioning it.

laid to rest- taking a guy's dead mother and ung her as a distraction puppet
hm4life Thursday 9/29/2011 at 09:01 AM | 83456
Not sure if somebody posted it or not (no time to read through ten pages), but the end of Audition was really disturbing. Also pretty much all of The Poughkeepe Tapes. I'm sure there's much more, but these movies spring immediately to mind. The August Underground trilogy is also pretty fucked up from beginning to end.

What's the hell

Most of horror movies always disturbing to me. I can't watch any horror movie alone. But i also can't miss any good release horror flick. As i only go watch horror movies to get entertain myself with those kinda terrific or disturbing moment. No any horror movie can entertain any one, if there will be lack of kinda stuffs or scenes which create great apprehenon in our mind with those disturbing moments.
alleythomas Saturday 10/15/2011 at 04:31 PM | 85147
As a general rule I don't find individual scenes disturbing, usually it's the overall scope of a film that can be unnerving.

The one exception that seems to stick out doesn't come from a movie, but from the Showtime series, Dexter.

The scene of Rita's death felt like I got punched in the chest; it certainly wasn't among the most graphic of scenes, but you had years to connect with the characters of Dexter and Rita.

nce I have a family, that was a visual representation of one of my worst fears, and it was amplified by the connection I felt with the characters.

There's one scene that will always be stuck in my head...

The scene from the Blair Witch, where they are awakened by the noises outde of their tent. I've never been so scared of noises before in my life. And when the tent starts shaking and you can here SOMETHING talking or laughing. It still give me the creeps and is the reason I don't go camping.
DarkSky Sunday 11/06/2011 at 11:53 AM | 86553
SAC 1 The scene before Angelina is revealed as Peter in Sleepaway Camp.

NOES 4 when from Rick's dream, to his death and Alice reacting, The Funral, and The Dinner Scene. Long her mother with her dad being the way he is in the movie and Rick being her sanity and her having the problems she already had makes it hard to watch.

NOES 5 Dan dyeing and Alice learning she is pg. The fact that Alice won the hottie and then lost him and had a peice of him, but not having him is heartbreaking. Seeing what happened to Amanda.

NOES 3 Old Amanda telling Dr. Neil Gordon the story of how Freddy was born and all their scenes. Makes is sad.

SOTL After Buffalo Bill kidnaps Catherine when he is cutting her shit and admiring her skin. It puts the lotion on it's skin scene, the whole women suit scene, and the basement scene.

ISOYG the whole rap scene and hanging the mentally challenged man. You have to understand he didn't know what he was doing, but at the same time understand why she was going through.

Dexter Not how Rita died, but what happened to Dexter as a kid and now the same thing happened to his.

I understand the psych behind a horror movie and not a mark like nancy noes fans. I understand how disturbing these moments are.
MickeyESBBeck Monday 11/14/2011 at 04:52 AM | 86953
Yes someone mentioned teeth wow intense

Frozen-the whole movie

Hostel-when the doc cuts the guy's ankles

Inde- yes when the baby is cut out intense as well

Pet semetary- when Gage cuts Fred ankle, mouth very disturbing
Steph_nightmares Thursday 11/17/2011 at 04:45 PM | 87115
The two that I will list are not bloody, or bits, but the scene in Jeepers Creepers, where Justin Long looks up, and finds all the bodies stitched up together like "some psycho veron of the stine Chapel" was pretty disturbing.

Also, the end of Pet Sematary, where Louis Creed greets his dead wife, as if she is still alive and well. It's so disturbing because he lost his baby son, then had to kill him with his own hands when he rose up from the burial ground. Then he had to bury his wife in the burial ground because his dead son murdered her. Other than Ellie, the man has lost absolutely EVERYTHING.
DrCam Tuesday 12/27/2011 at 12:54 AM | 88661
For some reason, the closet scene in 'The Ring' where they show the scene and say 'I saw her face' .... Brrrrrr... creepy! That one stuck with me for a while! Great movie too!
Nokturnas Saturday 1/14/2012 at 11:50 PM | 89474
I was on the hunt for the most disgusting, disturbing, movie that after I watch would make me want to take the hottest shower. So far, only one has done it. Marian Dora's Cannibal. It's really not all that bad, but there was one scene that was really realistic and set with me. Other than that, August Underground Mordum, Irreverble face smash, and the whole movie Feed made me a little gaggy.

With out a doubt the rape scene in a clock work orange. I mean, nging in the rain and just the way the whole scene was carried out. just wierd. and any R. Kelly muc videos... frightening!
kizzle Wednesday 4/11/2012 at 01:46 AM | 92347
DefInitely agree with the Henry home invaon.

The close-up of the rotting corpse-woman tting up out of the bath tub in The Shining. (That whole movie is horrifying, especially if you think of it from Shelly Duvall's point of view.)

Most of Funny Games. That tuation got real hopeless real fast.

Samara crawling out of the TV in The Ring.

Cannibal Holocaust turtle.

The bleach and Brillo pad scene in Clive Barker's Dread.

Not horror- but the murder scene in Heavenly Creatures REALLY bothers me.

Kalifornia, when Juliette Lewis finally takes a stand against Brad Pitt.

The scene in Last House on the Left (original) Where they make her pee her pants. It is so humiliating, it really makes me feel uncomfortable. Girl Next Door was super disturbing over all as well.

I'm going to give this thread a nice little bump. Sorry for not showing my internet face around here in awhile, but I've been keeping up to date with you guys.

I recently caught Megan is Misng, and while the film as a whole was a bit annoying, the last 22 minutes were quite disturbing, most notably the rape scene and then when he opens the barrel and tosses Amy in with the somewhat decomposed Megan.

I could have gone without the last 10 minutes of digging, but the fact that it felt real was what really made this a bit frightening.
KeeterZ Monday 7/30/2012 at 04:54 PM | 95160
Probably a Japanese movie Guds of beauty (Bijo no harawata) when a raped girl turns into a giant looking penis with teeth and than she kills all the bad guys with her giant penis.

Or Nekromantik when husband brings a corpse to his wife so she can have sex with it. And she puts a wooden stick where the penis of the corpse is and than she rapes the corpse.Thats just...ck...and totaly wrong.
