Betsy Palmer Passes Away

It is a sad day within the Horror community as we have learned that Betsy Palmer, the actress who portrayed Pamela Voorhees in FRIDAY THE 13TH has passed away. Palmer died this past Friday in Connecticut at a hospice care center. She was 88 years old.




Palmer enjoyed a six decade long career, playing many characters throughout the years. However none came close to her iconic role as Mrs. Voorhees. A part which she took to pay for an automobile, and at the time loathed. She later came to embrace the role proudly as Horror fans helped her realize that her contribution has been a wonderful thing.

She began acting in the 1950's with gigs in TV shows like PLAYHOUSE 90 and STUDIO ONE. She eventually appeared on AS THE WORLD TURNS, THE LOVE BOAT, KNOT'S LANDING, MURDER SHE WROTE, NEWHART, COLUMBO, and CHIPS.

As far as Palmer's big screen career goes besides FRIDAY THE 13TH and her brief appearance in it's sequel, she had character roles in films such as QUEEN BEE with Joan Crawford, THE TIN STAR with Henry Fonda and Anthony Perkins. Plus the movie MR. ROBERTS which also starred Fonda.

Palmer made several appearances on gameshows as well as a stint On Broadway.
