There is very sad news in the world today as we have learned that Angus Scrimm has passed away. His passing took place on Saturday in the company of friends and family. He was 89.
PHANTASM director Don Coscarelli shared the following:
"Phantasm’s Angus Scrimm passed away peacefully tonight surrounded by his friends and loved ones... Angus’s performance as the Tall Man is a towering achievement in horror film history. He was the last of the classic horror movie stars... Angus was a terrific actor and an even better friend. He will be missed."
Scrimm was born Lawrence Rory Guy. He is best known for his portrayal of The Tall Man from the PHANTASM films. His acting career lasted more than four decades. Along the way Scrimm had roles in ALIAS, SUBSPECIES, I SELL THE DEAD and CHOPPING MALL.
J.J. Abrams is currently working on a 4k restoration of PHANTASM. Scrimm stars in the upcoming PHANTASM: RAVAGER.
Those who had the chance to know or meet Scrimm got to experience the kindness that he contained within which was polar opposite of his Tall Man character.
R.I.P. Angus Scrimm. Our deepest condolences go out to his family and friends during this very difficult time.
