Big News For THE SHINING Prequel OVERLOOK HOTEL!

Most everyone is familiar with Stanley Kubrick's popular Horror film THE SHINING which was based on Stephen King's novel of the same title. Kurbrick's amazing talent in filmmaking and the time that he put into this classic come across brilliantly in so many different ways. The use of the fictional Overlook Hotel in the film has proved to be one of the most frightening characters in itself.

We learned some time ago that former WALKING DEAD showrunner Glen Mazzara was penning a script for a prequel to THE SHINING titled OVERLOOK HOTEL. We have learned that this project is indeed looking to be taking off as Mark Romanek is now in talks with Warner Bros. to direct OVERLOOK HOTEL. Brad Fischer, James Vanderbilt, and Laeta Kalogridis are set to produce. The draft that Mazzara turned in is an adaptation of Stephen King's originally unpublished prologue to The Shining novel.

Here is how the prologue's synopsis reads:

“Based on Stephen King’s original prologue to The Shining, which was cut from the book prior to publication in 1977, the film will tell the origin story of the Overlook Hotel through the eyes of its first owner, Bob T. Watson. A robber baron at the turn of the 20th century, Watson scaled the remote peaks of the Colorado Rockies to build the grandest resort in America, and a place he and his family would also call home.”

Warner Bros. also has plans to do a feature film adaptation of Stephen King's recent novel sequel to The Shining titled Doctor Sleep.
