ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK Remake News - Who Is Being Considered For Snake Plissken? Answers Within!

There has been an ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK remake being talked about for many years now. Way back in early 2013 we all learned that producer Joel Silver had big plans for taking the remake into a new direction with a different story and the goal of ending in a trilogy. Fast forward to now and let it be known that the remake is still moving ahead. We have learned some new details on the film, as well as having a short list of actors who are being considered for the role of Snake Plissken.

Starlog reports that the remake is progressing and that it will be "more team-based, as Snake Plissken traverses through a treacherous New York landscape with a rogues gallery of criminals who look to leave the island-turned-prison in exchange for the rescue of the captured U.S. President." So Snake may have some new buddies along for the ride in this take.

Here are some further details:

“Plissken’s team consists of Mina, a warzone journalist framed for murder and living in the shadows of New York as a scavenger; Cabbie, a schizophrenic travel guide who serves as comic relief; Gareth, the last surviving member of the President’s security detail who harbors a dangerous secret; and The Brain, Plissken’s former partner-in-crime who left him to die after a botched robbery.”

At this point, Silver Pictures has a short list of actors that are being considered for the role of Snake Plissken:

Charlie Hunnam

Jon Bernthal

and Dan Stevens

Starlog goes on to say that "Hunnam is currently the top contender now that his run on SONS OF ANARCHY has concluded, although it is unclear if his commitments to PACIFIC RIM 2 will leave the actor unavailable"

No word yet on who could be directing, but it is said that this version of ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK is expected to be a much darker tone, and said to still have the sci-fi elements but "less tech-based, and more of a gun-and-run thriller."
