Major Update On THE STAND Remake!

Bringing you the best in Horror Movie News, and all things Horror.

The remake of the apocalyptic tale that is THE STAND has been brewing for quite a while now. Some time ago we found out that the new adaptation of Stephen King's novel gained a new director in Josh Boone. He was also given the task of handling the script rewriting duties. As it stood in September Boone said that “we’re gonna do one three-hour, R-rated version with an amazing A-list cast across the board." We have now learned that this has changed.

Recently Josh Boone was a guest on Kevin Smith's podcast Hollywood Babble-On. While there Boone revealed that the plan now is to do THE STAND in four films. He talks a bit about the road up until this point saying:

"I really wanted to do an A-list actor, really grounded, credible version of the movie and they hired me...I sold them on a single, three hour movie. I went and got [Stephen] King sold on it, everybody's really excited...I told the story non-linear and that was the way I was able to compress the book and get everything into that movie script...So what happened is the script gets finished, I write it in like five months, everybody loves it, King loves it, it was budgeted at $87 million."

The original idea of THE STAND being crammed into one film would have been nearly impossible. Now that it will be made into four films, Boone says:

“I loved my script, but you are able to do an even truer version that way. I will just say we are going to do four movies and we are going to do THE STAND in a way that is going to blow people's minds."

Rumor is that Matthew McConaughey could be portraying villain Randall Flagg.

We will continue to bring you more on this story as it unfolds.
