News On The HIGHLANDER Reboot Within! Big Name Being Considered

Bringing you the best in Horror Movie News, and all things Horror.

Back in 1986 director Russell Mulcahy saw the release of his film HIGHLANDER. Despite having enjoyed little success in its initial U.S. release, the movie eventually gained a huge cult following and inspired a franchise that included sequels and television spin offs.

We have learned that Summit Entertainment has been in talks to try and acquire Tom Cruise for the mentor role of Juan Ramirez in Cedric Nicolas-Troyan's upcoming reboot of HIGHLANDER. That role was previously portrayed by Sean Connery in the original film.

Although there is great interest in Cruise, at the present time he has been busy with MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE 5 and seems to have his plate full. A representative of his says that HIGHLANDER “is one of many projects that come to him (Cruise)". A source within Summit claims that no negotiations with Cruise have yet to take place but they did not deny that he is the studio's choice to co-star.

Synopsis:

"An immortal Scottish swordsman on a quest for revenge against The Kurgan, a barbarian who has chased him across time as they battle for an all-powerful Prize."

The script was penned by Art Marcum and Matt Holloway along with Melissa Rosenberg. Neal H. Moritz and Peter Davis are set to produce along with Justin Lin as executive producer.

We will keep you updated on the HIGHLANDER reboot as it continues to unfold.
