A thrilling landmark film that jolts along at a breakneck pace, 1981's ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK leapt to cult status with lots of action, edge of your seat suspense and a mind blowing vision of lone warrior Snake Plissken battling his way out of a post apocalyptic Manhattan.

There has been an ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK remake being talked about for many years now. Fast forward to the present time and some concrete news for the project has finally arrived.

We have learned that a competitive purchasing scramble to gain the rights to remake ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK recently took place, and Fox was the victorious studio. The plan is for them to expand the newly acquired property into a multi-film series.

Along with that news comes word that John Carpenter will indeed be offering his creative input as he is set to executive produce the project. Mike Ireland from Fox will oversee the development of the remake.

The film is in the early stages of development, with no writer or director attached just yet. Some time ago Charlie Hunnam and Chris Hemsworth were both rumored to take on the iconic role of Snake Plissken, but no one has been cast in that role as of now.
