New ALIEN Film Could Still Happen! - More Within

Apparently Neil Blomkamp, director of DISTRICT 9 and ELYSIUM was at one time being considered to create a new ALIEN project. Last month Blomkamp shared with the world some new concept art for a possible future ALIEN project, (See Concept Art HERE).

Blomkamp led us to believe that he is no longer working on this possible ALIEN film. He recently spoke to Collider while promoting his upcoming film CHAPPIE and when asked about the ALIEN concept art he replied:

“There was a reason. I wanted to make that film. I still may make that film. [Laughs] It may happen. But I did it on my own time. Like when Chappie was winding down in post and I had available time, I started to work on it. It was also from talking to Sigourney [Weaver] during the making of this. I mean, I asked her about Alien all the time. Alien and Aliens are my favorite films. So I genuinely wanted to make that film, I came up with the story, I came up with way more art than I put out and I never officially spoke to Fox about it, but Fox wanted to make it. So, I kind of touched on it and I didn’t know what to do, and I didn’t know if I was just gonna go leave directing for a whole bunch of time and then I was like, ‘I might as well put some art out.’ But I may make it. I don’t know. That’s where it stands.”

Speaking with Uproxx, Blomkamp continued the talk of the ALIEN concept art saying:

“Basically, what happened was, when Chappie got heavily into post-production, I could take my foot off the gas a bit. I was thinking about what I wanted to do next and I’ve been wanting to make an Alien film for like years and years… when I wasn’t needed in the edit, I could think about Alien. So, I basically developed an entire movie and I did all of this artwork as well.”

He continues:

“There’s a high possibility, a high degree of chance that it happens that I go back and try to get Alien made.”

It appears that CHAPPIE star Sigourney Weaver has interest in this new ALIEN idea. Speaking with ComingSoon she had this to say on the topic at hand:

“It’s not that so much is that we just left it at such a creepy place, sort of stranded above Earth. I was quite happy to move onto other things and I didn’t want to go to Earth. I didn’t want to manufacture a sequel and I felt like we were starting to do that. If something happens from this, it would be very organic and very original, and because of that, it would make me want to do it. If it was someone as talented as Neil, I’d certainly listen.”

Who knows if we will ever get a Neil Blomkamp ALIEN movie? We will continue to follow this story.
