Major Update On The New Adaptation Of Stephen King's IT Within!

Back in May of last year we learned that the new adaptation of Stephen King's IT had relocated from Warner Bros. over to New Line Cinema. With Cary Fukunaga in the director's chair, the planned two-film project continues to move forward.

Fukunaga recently spoke with the Brazilian newspaper O Globo. He spoke about the project saying:

“I’ve been in this project for about five years.I had already read versions of the script but nothing felt right. Everybody tried to put too much into it, telling it from the perspective of the adult and the child in a two hour movie. It didn’t fit. So I decided to throw it all away and start from scratch.

This will be my first movie in the US and I’m still trying to find the perfect guy to play Pennywise. It’s really good to know Stephen [King] likes what we did. We (Fukunaga and writers David Kajganich and Chase Palmer) changed names, dates (the story is originally set in the 60′s) dynamics, but the spirit is similar to what he’d like to see in cinemas, I think.”

It will certainly be interesting to see how these changes in the timeline for this new version will play out. Can the perfect Pennywise be found? Only time will tell.

Dan Lin, who is producing the new adaptation of IT spoke last month in an interview with Vulture and had the following to say on the project:

“The idea is to start official prep in March for a summer shoot. The most important thing is that Stephen King gave us his blessing. We didn’t want to make this unless he felt it was the right way to go, and when we sent him the script, the response that Cary got back was, ‘Go with God, please! This is the version the studio should make.

The Studio's emphasis will be less slashery and will be going for more thrills and chills. The plan is for there to be two different IT films. The first one telling the story of the kids and then the second one would see the focus put on them as adults."

Warner Bros has been working on a new version of IT for many years now, but with the switch over to New Line, it will be nice to see the Horror classic being remade under the New Line umbrella. There are currently no casting details at this time.

Synopsis:

"IT follows a group of kids called the Losers Club who defeat a creature called It. Years later, the creature returns and the club, now adults, have to band together again even though they have no memory of the first battle.”
