Fresh News On The Upcoming SUSPIRIA Remake Within!

Bringing you the best in Horror Movie News, and all things Horror.

Dario Argento's 1977 classic Horror film SUSPIRIA is considered by many fans to be one of the very best movies ever made. Plans to create a remake were talked about for a while but never amounted to anything. There has even been ideas for the film to take the possible television series route.

Director David Gordon Green came really close to remaking SUSPIRIA a few years ago but it was halted and crushed as financial issues were to blame.

The original SUSPIRIA tells the story of:

"an American ballet student who transfers to a prestigious dance academy in Germany but later realizes that the academy is a front for something far more sinister and supernatural amidst a series of murders."

Green has since moved on from wanting to direct the remake of SUSPIRIA, but back in June he stated that the film could still be taking place with "a great Italian director" taking over.

Empire recently spoke with Luca Guadagnino at the Venice Film Festival and revealed that he will in fact be directing the remake saying:

Guadagnino says:

"[My version] is going to be set in Berlin in 1977. It’s going to be about the mother and the concept of motherhood and about the uncompromising force of motherhood. It’s going to be about finding your inner voice – the title is very evocative on these grounds."

He adds:

"[It will be] very different. The movie by Dario Argento was maybe a child of its own times. It's very delicate; almost childish. I have a very strong interest in German literature and film, so I think [my] Suspiria will have to focus very strongly on that moment in history, in 1977, when Germany was divided and a new generation was claiming and asking to recognize the debt of guilt that forged the new Germany after the war against the fathers who wanted to deny the responsibility."

Guadagnino's career has mostly been made up of shorts and documentaries. He has a few feature dramas to his credit. His latest effort is the thriller A BIGGER SPLASH, which is a remake of 1969's LA PISCINE.

We will continue to bring you more on the SUSPIRIA remake as it unfolds.
