Update On THE CROW Remake Within!

Back in July Relativity Media's THE CROW remake was well into the pre-production process when the company had to file Chapter 11 bankruptcy. This of course brought everything to a screeching halt. The project had previously lost several possible directors such as Stephen Norrington, Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, and F. Javier Gutierrez.

There has been talk going around that the current choice to helm, Corin Hardy might also be parting ways with the film but we have learned that Relativity has signed Hardy to a holding deal. They are expected to rise out of this bankruptcy situation by March, with the plan of making THE CROW their top priority.

The idea of a remake for THE CROW hasn't really went over well with fans, but that isn't stopping creator James O'Barr's enthusiasm as he is all in on this new take. He has made it known that this project will not be a direct remake of the 1994 film, but rather a faithful adaptation of the graphic novel.

Andrea Riseborough has been expected to portray the villainous character of Top Dollar, previously played by Michael Wincott, but it is not certain if she will still be attatched by the time production begins. Regardless, the role of Top Dollar will be female for the new adaptation. O'Barr spoke with Fango saying:

"It's not what people might expect. She's the girlfriend of one of the gang members, and not necessarily the head of the gang, like everyone thinks. It’s adding more layers to the bad guys. They all have extra backstory in this one, and get a little more screen time than I gave them in the book."

With Jack Huston no longer set to take on the lead role, finding the right actor to portray Eric Draven, previously played by Brandon Lee, will be on the forefront.

The Crow began as a dark fantasy action comic book story, in which rock musician Eric Draven is revived from the dead to avenge his murder and death of his girlfriend.

The original film spawned a number of sequels as well as a television series.
